A couple of weeks ago, my dad and I were driving home after I got off work, and we got a flat tire on the highway. It was after nine at night, getting into the late hours.
We made it down to a local gas station. A total stranger helped us get the busted tire off and get the spare on -- we were kind of struggling with it in the dark, and Dad and I were both angry and frustrated and snapping at each other. This guy came in, tapped Dad on the shoulder, and jumped in to help. We got through the language barrier -- Spanish was his first language, and Dad and I neither one speak it -- with gestures and charades. Between the three of us, we got the whole thing done. It was ten o'clock by now.
The spare tire needed air. We wheeled over to the air pump -- and a guy there flagged us down to warn us the air hose was broken. Another total stranger, who didn't know us from Adam, doing what he could to help.
I found us another gas station in the same chain (they always have a free tire pump) about a mile away, and we crawled over to it. It's 10:30. After twenty minutes of trial and error, we realized the spare tire wouldn't hold air. It's the middle of the night, and we're stranded twenty miles from home. I have the next day off, but Dad has work in the morning. The people at the gas station said we could leave our car there overnight.
Again, total strangers. Trying to help.
I called a Lyft to get us home. It's eleven. The driver shows up -- and tells us he's a mechanic. He has a patch kit in his trunk. He patches both our busted tire and the spare, and helps get us on the road again. He told us his story, coming over from Africa -- he'd been more specific about what country, but I don't remember what he said right now, unfortunately -- and coming over to the US and trying to build a new life.
We got home safely, entirely because a series of people decided to put some good out into the world. To make things better for people they didn't even know. Because that's just... What you do. You make things better for the people around you. Whenever, wherever, and however you can.
There's hope. There's good people out there. There's people who want to make things better. I know things seem bad right now, but... Don't give up.
Please.
We can make things better.
I got up the courage to sim at a nonbinary support group today, and I found out afterwards that someone genuinely believed that I was an amputee! Holy shit, the euphoria hits hard. Better than gender euphoria, honestly.
HOLY SHIT A PERSON WHOS BIRTHDAY IS ON RNN🥳🥳 HBDDD

I went to a place that had osmanthus tea today and thought that since it was your username it must be really good. And it was!
Ah! I’m so glad you enjoyed!
Definitely my favourite tea, and it’s nice to introduce people to it, even at a distance
