That movie was fucked up
I feel queasy hours after watching it
If art was going to cause such a divide between me and my parents then I probably wouldn’t have chose it to be such an integral part of who I am
I remember when I was younger my family didn’t really go to church much but when we did I never payed attention (still don’t)
But one time I yawned in the middle of mass and my mother looked at me and whispered into my ear to say that it was the devil making me yawn.
Cuz that totally makes sense, God expects his followers to restrain from the basic human instinct of yawning. And of course the devil personally took the time to whisper into my 9 year old self’s ear to make me yawn.
Since I was stupid back then I thought she ment that he was literally whispering in my ear and become paranoid that a little devil man would crawl near my ear and whisper. I was also confused because I didn’t actually hear him and I would try so hard to notice when he supposedly did so. But this messed me up for years.
Moral of the story: don’t give your kids religious guilt, no matter if dumb it sounds
