Your Work Is Your Worship!

PERSPECTIVE MATTERS...

“The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” ~ Genesis 2:15

Honest hard work- this is something God seeks from all of us. God's words tell us that working hard, but with faith in mind, can lead to the great things He has planned for us. The beginning of work is from the beginning of time. God Himself worked for six days and rested on the seventh. When God completed creation He called it "very good". We are created in the image of God and are designed to experience success and fulfillment through hard work! As Christians - Kingdom citizens and followers of Christ Jesus - we should view our jobs as an opportunity to serve God through perseverance and patience, and serve others through a Christ-like attitude.

Now, ordinarily there is a gigantic, Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your work and your job. Just as God’s thoughts and His ways are higher than ours, so is God’s thoughts and His ways concerning work and labor. Work is what God ordained for man from the beginning. Our genuine work was always meant to be our genuine worship. You never see nor hear of Adam and Eve going to church or building an altar to worship the Lord from. There was never a gap intended between our work and our worship of God. They were purposed to be one and same and evidenced the love of God through obedience to God in the work you were called and purposed to do. 

You were purposed to work a God-appointed, God-anointed work assignment on the earth on behalf of the King and His Kingdom. Your work is purposed to be both managerial and hands-on. It is an assignment that you never need to be anxious about being fired from or downsized out of because it is a God-given assignment and God does not renege on His promises or His purposes toward you. God is no “Indian giver.” He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and yours is a forever work assignment on behalf of His forever Kingdom. No man or devil and can fire you from your God-ordained work assignment, they can only hire you!

Now, your job likely will never offer you that kind of security. There is really no such thing as “job security,” only work security - the work that you were born to do rather than the job someone hired you to do and can fire you from. Peace, that unsurpassed security that can only come from God when you make Him the genuine Lord of your life, including your “work life,” is the gift of God. It is the gift that is bestowed upon those whose lives are lived in the service of God on the earth. It is the domain of those who work as God did and Jesus demonstrated, as opposed to labor as most people do.

To labor is to toil at an energy-depleting job assignment. Labor is a product of the Fall in the Garden of Eden. See Genesis 3:17-19. To work is to align yourself with the purpose of God for the Garden of Eden, to avail yourself as a manager of God’s Kingdom resources on His earth and to steward those resources effectively, efficiently and profitably to the glory of God, not self. See Genesis 2:5 and 15. To work is to increase the territory of the Kingdom of God and put yourself in position to have God increase your territory as well. The King promises in His Word, that if you show yourself faithful over few or little things, He will make you ruler over many or big things! And God has many big plans for you!
