Check hard drive errors in Windows 7
Hard drive issues are one of the common PC issues which are prone to develop errors. However MS Windows has actions which would scan the drive for errors. These errors should be fixed which would prevent data loss.
Bad sectors and errors develop in all hard drives. Modern versions of Windows contain software which can detect these issues and fix them. Bad sector is one of the common problems where the operating system cannot use the hard drive reliably. The disks scan the components within Windows and would mark these sectors in such a way that it indicates the operating system to ignore them to prevent data loss.
Below given some steps on how you can do this in Windows 7:
1. Go to Computer from the Start menu.
2. Right-click the hard disk. You can run the disk check and choose Properties.
3. Select tools tab under the disk Properties.
4. From the Error-checking section select Check now. However you need to have administrative privileges.
5. Under Check disk options select the checkboxes which you want to apply to the disk. Now click Start.
Your disk would start scanning now. The time required for scanning depends on the speed, size of the drive and the number of errors found.
