Aisle 15 Assignment
Coach Stone did not ask Wells to pick up milk, protein powder, or anything normal.
He just leaned back, smiled into his coffee, and said, “Home Depot. Aisle 15. Chain. Good weight. Smooth links. Nothing cheap.”
Wells knew better than to ask questions.
By the time he found the sign, he had to stop and laugh.
Lubricants. Rope & Chain. Screws. Tie Downs.
“Subtle, Coach,” Wells muttered, standing there in a shiny gold shirt bright enough to be seen from lumber.
He tested a length of chain in both hands, letting it slide slowly through his grip. Heavy. Cold. Solid. The kind of thing Coach would inspect link by link, tug once, smirk, and say, “That’ll hold.”
Then Wells glanced back up at the sign.
Lubricants, in case things needed to move smoother.
Rope and chain, in case someone needed a little structure.
Screws, because apparently Aisle 15 believed in being direct.
Tie downs, because Coach Stone always did appreciate proper restraint.
Wells dropped the chain into the cart with a grin.
Whatever Coach had planned, it was going to be a long night.
And judging by the shopping list, Wells was about to be very useful.
