Sleep
Sleep: I’ll write a drabble of one character snuggling in bed with another. (Okay, this is super late sorry. And also this isn’t exactly in a bed but it’s inspired by this and still has cuddling so it works right? Right)
The last few weeks had been long. So long for Charlie and Natalie. Charlie had tried to convince his girlfriend that–for the next semester–she should refrain from staying in a dorm on her campus. What with her newly accepted internship and his time at the fire station, they should try to find a place together. Which would have been a wonderful idea–
If he had actually tried to look for a place, that is. Instead, Natalie had found out a mere week before classes started back up that he had not found a place. And so for the time being, the two were fortunate enough to be given refuge at his parents’ house. But between going to work (and school for Natalie), helping around the house, and searching for a place for themselves, both had grown weary and disillusioned. Something that Charlie, in particular, was not very used to and could not stand feeling. And he was certain Natalie was faring no better.
So one day after she had finished her homework, he took her hand and guided her to the backyard. She laughed when he eventually let go, flopping down into the hammock that was there. “What are you doing?” she wondered as she shook her head, the corners of her lips quirking up.
He didn’t reply but once he was comfortable, he instead raised his arms and beckoned her toward him. She rolled her eyes but her smile was still present when she joined him. Once she had laid down with him, he kissed the top of her head. “I think it’s time for a nap. What do you think?”
She wiggled a little and place her head on his chest before muttering, “You know I’m no good at that.”
“It’s still worth a shot.” He stared at his fingers as he ran them through her hair, musing, “Have you tried napping on a hammock before? It could make a difference.” She was about to speak–he knew to contradict the though–so he added, “Plus, it’s comfy; so there’s nothing wrong with just laying here, right?”
“…I guess not.”
And then they grew silent, snuggled up together as the sun inched down toward the horizon. He could tell after a while that she had indeed fallen asleep even if it wasn’t very deeply. This, he thought to himself as he fought to keep from dozing off himself, was one of his best ideas. And certainly something the two of them had needed.
