Jackie had struck again, not that she was surprised at all. The man always had trouble closing his damned mouth, and he had gone off quite a bit, making more than one person uncomfortable, herself included. Sarah was still on her apology list, but she was avoiding the girl thanks to not really knowing what to say. For Sam, she had managed to come up with something else, so that was always a good sign. Fingers dragged through her dark hair before she pulled the navy knit hat over her head and brushed her fingers over her face.
While she was leaving her room, she tugged on her fingerless gloves and made her way down to Sam’s room, this was going to be interesting, that was if she could convince him to come with her. Slowly making her way down the hall, her fingers finally went up and she tapped her nails on the door of his room. “Sam?” She called out quietly, not even entirely sure that he was there, but figuring it was worth a shot at least.
“Sam?” She called the blonde’s name again as her fingers wound around the knob and she gently eased the door open with her free hand, her other hand pressed into the door to help her open it. When her eyes fell on him she broke into a small smile. “Ready for your official apology? And don’t tell me not to apologize, it is necessary, and it’s already done, there’s nothing I can do to change it now.” A grin spread over her features as she backed into the hallway, lifting her hands she motioned him toward her, still backing up. “C’mon, Simba, let’s get this going, shall we?”
Harper was in distress, that was putting it kindly. After her strange and extremely painful meeting with Dr. Deacon last night, she hadn’t really tried to fight to keep herself seeing the world from her own eyes and had let go. She remembered leaving the doctor’s office, and by the time she made it to the small sink in her room, her arms were covered in the disturbing rivers of her own blood. Her arms had burned, badly, and it only got worse when she had run them under the water. Though rather than going to find anyone to do anything about it. The brunette had just whined and whimpered her way through cleaning the new cuts.
That was last night, over twelve hours ago and she was still extremely upset over the entire ordeal. Hell she was still shaking and she didn’t even realize it. Maybe Sam was right. Going up to the roof, some fresh air, away from the constant threat of the doctor looming down on her, she’d get a little bit back. That was what she kept chanting to herself over and over again anyway while she wrapped her arms in new gauze. A nurse had come in this morning to bandage her up right, she had been mumbling the entire time something about seeing this sort of thing all the time.
That had freaked her out even more. The nurse was constantly cleaning up after the doctor? Or did she think she had done this to herself? Granted, it was probably expected that she would do it to herself, her arms were screaming proof of the years of practice, but she hadn’t… someone had done this to her, for no reason other than to hurt her. Shoving the thoughts away, Harper pulled on her sweatshirt, easing it gently over her tender arms while she made her way up to the roof.
Once she was up on top she took in a deep breath, breathing in slowly and letting it back out. Her arms crossed before her, she her hands were resting on opposite shoulders as she eased her way further onto the roof. “Sam?” She called his name in the chance that he beat her there, her gaze turning to look warily over the roof.
Harper sighing heavily, having gotten lost like eight times but finally makes her way to Dr. Deacon's office, knocking timidly on the door.
Dr. Deacon Looking up as the knock on the door was heard and smirked lightly. "Come in.."
Harper finally pushes the door open after a long breath, her hand going to her left forearm. "You wanted to see me... sir?"
Dr. Deacon "I did...now I'm aware that I'm not your attending physician but..I'm afraid we have something to discuss." Getting up now, he ushered her towards the chair in front of his desk before shutting and locking the door, pulling the shade closed.
Harper frowning immediately while she sunk down into the chair, her hand pressing down hard. "Something to discuss?" Her eyes darted about before focusing on him again, turning in her chair to keep him in her sights. "Did I do something wrong?"
Dr. Deacon: "A little...yes." Giving the girl a kind smile before he moved back to his chair, rummaging slowly through his drawers now. "About the other night..."
Harper "I'm sorry, whatever it is, I really didn't mean to do it." Shifting in the chair, she turned back in it normally, sitting on the edge. "Which night? Is this because I couldn't sleep, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to complain, I just wasn't sure if the person that was screaming was okay or not..."
Dr. Deacon: "Hmm.." Trailing off a bit, he pulled out a silver box, placing it on the table with a light chuckle. "No, no..I meant when you and Miss Nichols came barging into my office." Voice still kind of cheery.
Harper her face falling some seeing the box, her eyes locked on it and looking up at him slowly. "Ho...where did you get that?" Curling her fingers more tightly into her arm, beginning to panic a little bit and starting to disconnect because of it. "We didn't mean to barge...I knocked... "
Dr. Deacon: "Never mind." Going to stand up now and he moved to shove some stuff off his desk, laying out the contents of the box in a neat little line while depositing a small bag of salt as well as he shrugged. "You are supposed to wait until someone says come in, right? You did it just fine ten seconds ago, you know."
Harper followed the doctor's movements with her eyes, wide and looking very much like a deer caught in the head lights. "I'm sorry, it was tactless and rude." She moved her gaze to her hands, where she was pulling her sleeves over her fingers, sighing out softly.
Dr. Deacon: "That it was." Nodding easily he clapped his hands together in front of himself, peering at her easily over his glasses, leaning on the edge of the desk. "And how do we propose we fix your disrespect issue?"
Harper pulling her sleeves farther over her hands, staring down at them. "I'm not sure... do you guys do grounded here or whatever it's called? Like... room restriction? I don't really know how these places work." Her voice got lower as she spoke.
Dr. Deacon: "I tell you what. If you have no other ideas...I've got one." Smiling kindly at her now, he whirled around, plucking one of the razorblades up and turning back to her.
Harper "I didn't bring that with me... "Speaking softly as she looked up to the razor in his hand, her eyes huge and dark. "What is it?"
Dr. Deacon: "I know." Nodding easily before he moved to shake his head. "Just a little discipline...a slight punishment for your insolence. I promise nothing major." He slid up a chair in front of her, hand going out expectantly.
Harper "Then how did it get here...?" Her question hung in the air, having barely spoken it out loud. She took a glance up at him before looking back to her hands immediately realizing she was going to get punished. A soft sigh left the girl and she looked up at him after he said nothing. A quizzical expression on her face. "Sir?"
Dr. Deacon: "It was confiscated by the police and your parents brought it here after your suicide attempt." Holding out his hand patiently, his eyebrows raised. "Hmm?" Saying nothing else but instead reaching out to grab her arm gingerly now, bringing it to him.
Harper "I didn't try to kill myself." Speaking quickly, her head snapping up to look at him. When he took her arm, she shied back some but didn't try and pull herself free, instead just watching him in confusion.
Dr. Deacon: "That right?" Slightly confused and wanting her to go on before taking her arm, pushing up the sleeve of her shirt, fingers probing over the already light scars silently.
Harper nodding her head to the doctor not saying anything, she instead hissed out from between her teeth when he pulled up her sleeve, her face going bright red as she again lowered her gaze to her lap in her shame.
Dr. Deacon: "Miss Manning..." Going to whisper but instead dropping conversation entirely with a light tsk of shame before rolling the razorblade in his fingers and immediately pressing it horizontally to her flesh, placing instant and heavy pressure on one side and gliding the rest of the blade across her skin.
Harper frowned as she looked up upon hearing her name, prepared to be scolded but getting met with an entirely different sight. The flash of the silver had her eyes going wide again and once it touched her skin, it finally clicked what was happening and she yelped out, trying hard to yank her arm free. "NO NO!" Squeezing her eyes shut tightly, still trying to pull free. "I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY!"
Dr. Deacon: Holding tight to her arm, he shook his head with a light shrug. "It won't do anyone any good if you scream." His voice calm. "I'd figure if you do it all the time, it really shouldn't bother you, Miss Manning." Dragging the blade across to create a decent sized wound, he lifted it, taking another fresh piece of skin and dragging it again. "The more you struggle the more punishment I'm afraid I'm going to have to duel out."
Harper "Please, please, please stop!" Starting to panic, that never being a good sign if she wanted to stay in control of herself, her entire tiny little body trembled as she stared at him, her eyes quickly squeezing shut instead when he attacked her skin again, biting down hard on her tongue and breathing hard.
Dr. Deacon: "There are consequences here Harper. For breaking the rules. Severe consequences..I'm going easy on you so please respect that." Lifting up the blade again he cut once, twice more, before reaching for her other arm, letting the first one rest on the arm of the chair facing upwards.
Harper at the moment, she was focused counting backward from three hundred, fighting hard but failing to stop her body from shaking. When he released her arm she stared down at it, jaw falling open in shock of the familiar springs of blood. "No, I'm sorry...I didn't mean to..." Pulling her other arm closer to her, her eyes shining with tears and going back to look at her bleeding arm in shock.
Dr. Deacon: "It'll be all over soon and you will be able to return to your room and have a good end to your night and hopefully will not break the rules again, yes?" He moved to create even cuts on her right arm now. "Our hospital has a zero tolerance for rudeness, disrespect, any bending of the rules, and otherwise ill obedience. I assume this will be your one and only offense, right Harper?"
Harper nodding her head frantically, her fingers curling into her palm, she hissed out in pain with each new cut, her body shaking worse than before. "I'm sorry... I won't do it again... please stop, it hurts." Swallowing hard she stared down at her arms, unable to look away from what he was doing to her.
Dr. Deacon: Making the final cut, he nodded easily before dropping her arm face up on the other arm rest and reaching over. "Just one more thing and I promise you can go, my dear." Going to stroke her cheek lightly, he reached forwards, grabbing the ziploc bag full of salt.
Harper pulled back from his hand as it went toward her face, staring at him with a furrowed brow. Once he grabbed the bag she bolted to her feet, knocking the chair over in her wake and pressing her bloody arms into her shirt. "Wh-what's that?"
Dr. Deacon: "Just...a little something...it won't hurt you..." Lying through his teeth, he moved to his feet, grabbing her arm now and pulling it towards himself, pouring the salt over her arm, then doing the same to the other side.
Harper yelped out painfully the minute the doctor moved toward even he had touched her yet. Whe the salt settled in her open cuts she furiously blinked away her tears, whining out quietly. "Ow ow ow ow ow."
Dr. Deacon: Nodding a little as she spoke, he patted her head softly, handing her a dry cloth and thumbed towards the door. "you may go now, I'm terribly sorry for that Miss Manning."
Harper she took the dry cloth and quickly pressed it down hard into her burning arm, trying to press her arms together to ease the pain. Her wide eyes looked up toward Dr. Deacon, absolutely terrified and with his words she bolted for the room, desperate to find some water to rinse off her arms and get rid of the salt.
