Steve & Squirrel?!
Continued from this Post: More OC stuff!: Poor Steve. All he wanted was self-exile in the Uknown. But then Jack found him, disturbing his peace and disturbing his already fractured conscience. Then a mad Shrew woman manages to capture him and shatter his conscience even more. But getting out is nowhere as easy as getting in, when some twisted...thing from the Unknown attacks them both, breaking that mirror.
Running for their lives they cross paths with Yima, or, maybe more accurately, Yima comes crashing onto them. She saves Steve and Harriet from the dangerous ink creatures, revealing that the ancient squirrel civilization everyone believed had vanished is still alive somewhere in the void. But how did it get there?
With little choice except to trust their energetic new rescuer, Steve and Harriet follow Yima on the short journey back to her people. For Steve, who entered the Unknown intending to disappear, meeting someone from an entire civilization that had supposedly disappeared centuries ago feels like one of fate’s more pointed ironies.
Yima's name is basically Yiim- Yucatec Maya word for Milk.
