SHE RESCUED HERSELF from the horrors of slavery. Went back 13x to rescue 70 more still-enslaved people on some none of us are free when others are oppressed. Kanye is... a Godly man attacking a Woman of God for attention. He is also VERY CLEARLY in the middle of an manic episode. May he receive the help he so desperately in need of. 📺 #ArtIsAWeapon Tonight is the Season 2 finale of @undergroundwgn, a riveting, heart-stopping and powerful TV program about a group of enslaved Africans' "every day" lives and their relentless, courageous pursuit of freedom in 1850's pre-Civil War America. Although almost all of the main characters are fictitious, the inclusion of historical facts and references to real people and places make me feel like I'm watching a well-researched, exciting history lesson come to life. I don't recall a television show depicting the full humanity of enslaved Black people or realities of slavery in America this well-written, perfectly acted, brilliantly directed or beautifully filmed. Episode 6 "Minty" featuring the phenomenal Aisha Hinds @appleofhisai as true life American heroine #HarriettTubman addressing a group of abolitionists is a one- woman tour de force deserving of every acting award. Never before had I seen a Black woman CARRY an entire hour of episodic television delivering only a monologue! I also really appreciate seeing women as highly-intelligent, resourceful, strong leaders and liberators. Bravo to the creators, cast, writers, costume and set designers, location scouts, music supervisors and everyone else involved with "Underground." If WGN doesn't renew it for a third season, I hope another network is smart and brave enough to pick it up. Stories like this, particularly during this perilous time in America, are necessary and empowering.
