things had been going well –- probably too well. after a quick slump at rock bottom, kennedy had manage to rectify more than he’d ever thought he would in the last little while, but it seemed not all of it could last. he sits with his eyes glued to the phone in his lap while his coffee starts to run cold, hearing the other speak though he couldn’t really listen. my mom’s sick. ’m taking the rest of the semester off. could he do anything about that? no. not even call it bullshit, because that would be wrong even if the timing seemed impeccable. for once, kennedy couldn’t allow himself to think something was about him. he blinks hard to focus himself back to the person in front of him, looking up with a shrug. “ don’t wear orange. ” he grimaces. “ you’ll look like a rolling tangerine. it’s a soiree, not a matinee picnic. ”
there’s little parker loves more than a good storm.
being further inland in north carolina, parker didn’t see many hurricanes until she started spending time with her extended family on the coast. north carolina definitely didn’t get the brunt of the storms for the most part, but she’d seen enough to get her excited. it was like a midwesterner sitting on their porch during a tornado warning; she just wanted to be in the midst of it.
she tunes out the warnings blaring over the loudspeaker and the students around her rushing to the rec room, and slowly pushes open the nearest door. the wind makes the heavy door fly open, and parker grins like a kid at christmas; this is gonna be fun.
heavy droplets soak her in seconds, and she spins in a circle with her arms wide -- the rain is a fickle dance partner, but at that moment, she is leading. she hears her name being called -- faint as it is with the roar of the storm. she pushes drenched strands of hair out of her face and turns back towards the door -- she can’t see who is calling her, but she doesn’t need to. “if you’re trying to make me come inside already, you’re gonna have to drag me in yourself!”
Lancer Olympics was an event that Josephine always enjoyed— it was fun and insane and friendly competition was never a bad thing. Although— this year her team seemed to have layers of hidden frictions, and she wasn’t all that willing to un-peel all of the bullshit. She sighed and shook her head, taking a swig of water before turning to the person next to her, holding out a bottle of Gatorade. “Here— I thought I’d lost my flask, so I bought this instead to keep me hydrated. Luckily for you, turns out I didn’t need it after all.”

ETHAN: do u think any of the dorms on campus are haunted
“what flavor are you thinking?” fox asks, turning to the person behind him in line. he’s been standing at sundae best looking at the menu for ages, trying to land on a flavor --- it’s not every day homecoming --- and thus, free ice cream --- comes around, after all. “these puns are incredible. i can’t decide between love is the lancer or heart of gold.”
a slim frame leans casually against a barrier of still damp concrete, half of a lit cigarette resting between her digits. it probably wasn’t the best idea to sneak out right now, but she needed her nicotine fix --- && to get out of her new dorm. eleanor had never been the best at connecting with others, so an ease into the change was needed. the sound of footsteps snaps her out of her dazed stare at the healing landscape, && she pulls another drag from her lips before speaking, ‘ nature is fucking brutal --- i love it.’
“ don’t look so shocked i’m going. ” she lays back, head tipping up toward the sky as she shrugs. “ free food. ” it’s really that simple. “ last year i snacked on one of those turkey legs all night. it was dope. but, uh, i spilled wine all over the dress i borrowed, so i might have to figure something out... ” there was no way her floormate was going to let her borrow something else after that, and alex’s collection of thrift men’s t-shirts, cargo pants and vans probably wasn’t going to do the job. “ still. there’s a lot a girl would do for a turkey leg, and the lipstick comes off so easy with that grease, it’s like it barely was there at all. ”
