Tales of Florida Gothic - Chapter 1
You try to avoid walking under the Spanish Moss alone, because that's when you hear the voices. But Spanish Moss is everywhere in Florida. It gets worse at night when you sometimes see things moving through the moss just out of the corner of your eye. Sometimes the voices fall silent - that's when you run.
It hasn't rained in months. The grass on the lawn has turned brown and crunches under foot when you walk on it. The air is fetid and still. Sometimes at night you hear footsteps upon the dry grass, but when you look, no one is there. You pray for the drought to end.
It hasn't stop raining in months. Most of your yard is flooded and the grass has grown tall and thick from all the water, but you can't get a break in the rain to mow it. Sometimes at night you hear sloppy footsteps on the wet lawn, but when you look, no one is there. You pray for the rain to end.
There is a peculiar bush in your yard that always seems to be covered with spider webs; the spiders fat and large from feasting upon so many insects. Sometimes you clear the spider webs away, but within an hour or so, they are all back. You feel your skin crawl.
Every 17 years the Brood X cicadas emerge from the Florida earth in a plague of biblical proportions and emit a chilling, screeching sound. You've noticed that most of them emerge from the graves of people who were buried exactly 17 years ago.
From time to time, a strange, dense fog settles across the swamp near your home. When it clears, you swear some of the trees have moved, but no one believes you. You've learned not to look at the swamp anymore when you drive by. But you still feel it looking at you.

ideal career: creepy old witch that lives in a small hut in the middle of a haunted, acid filled swamp, whose cackles echo throughout the muggy atmosphere, scaring everything away.
this is actually for a future d&d campaign
This is the famous bog in the bachelors grove cemetery. Back in the day when the cemetery was still abandoned/forgotten the mob used to dump bodies and guns into the water. sometimes rusty guns are still found and strange voices have been recorded by devices lowered into the water! The hauntings at this bog begin back before it was a cemetery and forest preserve though to when it was just land. a farmer was dragged into the water by his horse tied to a plow and they both drowned here.
