I drew these the other week and forgot to mcflippin post them, but i REALLY REALLY want to explore Rose's role as an active mother in this au, even if she's not as 'active' as she'd like to be because of how weak she's gotten.
The biggest tragedy of SU in my opinion is that. Steven is given a beautiful gift, yes, life and magic and an amazing (if struggling) family. And she probably never EVER intended for him to have to deal with her mistakes. She wanted him to experience life, free of her errors and past mistakes looming over her, over HIM, wanted him to be free in a way she never really got to, even after she became 'Rose' fulltime.
And he didn't get that. Her past shows up to haunt her, but it didn't find HER. It found all she left behind. Her family, her home, and her son, and so it haunted him in her place.
Her mistakes and past have a different face in the gemtaur au, but they are still real and present and have to be dealt with. But. Steben will not bear the brunt of it. She will be there. She faces her past when she's able, and can do what she can to protect her son and her herd from her past.
Also, I just sincerely think she would be a loving mother, and she deprived herself of that experience as well, when she chose to give up her form for steven.
So. Steben and Rosa will get what Steven and Rose didn't. --don't mind me crying at 4:30 am about blorbos--

Biting the inside of her cheek, Jade looked down almost in shame. She knew the way she had been acting was ridiculous and completely out of character. Why? She wasn’t entirely sure of that one. Coming back had been an adjustment and even if Hope and her weren’t on that weird cold, polite sharp space anymore, it still felt weird when she found out about everything that went on and all that happened with Landon.
Logically, she knew what the boy meant for Hope and the rest of the ‘squad’. But her insecurities were one thing that Jade still didn’t figure out how to manage, and after leaving without much of a phone number ( or a reason for leaving ). Jade figured it’d made sense for Hope to... move on, from her and all the mess she carried with her. And even if it hadn’t been the case, it still seemed like a better option to detach herself from all of it. To not think of the way Hope had been sent to Malivore ( erased from her memory, a blank that she couldn’t quite understand until the memories came rushing back in ). To not think of the way she found her, attached to an ascendant while dark magic poisoned her and the twins.
She wasn’t expecting things to go back to what they were just like that. And after breaking the girls apart and confronting Hope about it. The tense air around them wasn’t that much of a surprise. Not that it hurt any less. So yes, at the moment, it had seemed like detaching herself from it was the best she could do, without restoring to turning her emotions back off. Now though, it didn’t feel as good of an idea, not with Hope’s accuratory eyes looking at her. “ I’m not ---What do you want me to do? Because I can’t just... I can’t be sitting about while you try to... I have no right to say anything, I know... so I don’t. “ a pause, biting the inside of her cheek once more. “ What do you want me to do, Hope?.”
