PLOTTED STARTER. @havesinned.
eleven was alive. that much mike knew for sure. it may have seemed like the demogorgon dragged her into the upside down, but she was stronger than that monster could ever be. mike, he hadn’t given up on her. not once. he’s tried to call el on his supercomm every day for almost a year, and he thinks ( he knows ) that she was listening to him, but was being kept from responding.
after doing some digging into the lab, into everything that happened, mike found a record of someone named jane ives. she was taken at birth by brenner. this was el. maybe she escaped the upside and was hiding in another state, with someone who she could trust — like her mom. now that mike had this information, he packed his belongings, only the essentials — water, snacks, a change of clothing, and twenty dollars he stole out of his parents’ sock drawer. his friends could cover for him for 2 days, which was long enough to get to bloomington on his bike. from then on, he was on a tight deadline to get to the ives home, with only the hope that eleven was even there.
mike didn’t make it that far.
bike chain breaks on the 3rd hour, and mike veers off rode into a rain puddle the size of a small pond. soaking wet and cold in the autumn air, mike is trying not to cry. the paladin, the knight ( mike the mighty ! ) does not cry. but even as the man on the motorcycle stops to help him up, he’s pushing back tears. ‘ can you... take me here? ’ the map is wet but still readable. mike points to the general place where the ives are located, the boy sniffing away his emotions, trying to be brave. he’s shivering when he starts to speak again. ‘ i n — need to get there. as f — fast as possible, ’
