ㅤㅤㅤWyatt  grunts  as  he  levers  himself  up  out  a  butterfly  slide,  grateful  (not  for  the  first  time)  that  he  opted  for  extra  padding  on  his  left  custom  knee  stack.  The  goalie's  not  entirely  sure  what  Dykstra's  got  to  be  chirping  about,  the  puck  they'd  both  been  tracking  was  blocked  by  Hazy's  own  thigh  rise.  It's  now  flying  back  past  the  opposing  team's  blue  line,  not  longer  a  threat  for  the  moment.  Wyatt  straightens  fully,  rolling  his  neck.

ㅤㅤㅤHe  levels  Evan  with  a  look  (that  Hayes  hopes  is  visible  through  the  protective  paneling  of  his  helmet.  Y'know,  for  the  full  effect).  “Hey,  I'm  doing  my  job,  Dykstra.  Maybe  if  you  did  yours,  I  wouldn't  have  to  perform  fucking  acrobatics  to  keep  the  biscuit  in  play.”

ㅤㅤㅤWyatt  glances  up  with  a  curious  half-grin,  still  loosening  the  straps  on  his  chestie  and  pulling  it  over  his  head.  Running  camp  drills  for  a  dozen  pre-teen  kids  shouldn't  really  be  that  much  of  a  workout,  but  the  goalie's  compression  shirt  sticks  to  him  with  sweat  regardless.  It's  just  one  of  those  realities  to  wearing  gear  nearly  double  the  weight  and  bulk  of  a  mobile  hockey  player.

ㅤㅤㅤ"You  talking  about  the  kids  or  the  rookies,  Roz?"  Hazy  laughs,  dumping  his  pads  in  his  locker  and  swiping  sweaty  curls  off  his  brow.  “I  think  I  saw  real  fear  in  Luca's  face  when  some  'em  started  using  their  buckets  like  battering  rams!”

ㅤㅤㅤSummers  in  the  off-season  have  been  so  much  better  since  Hayes  made  the  trade  to  Ottawa.  Since  he  met  Ilya  and  joined  these  Game  Changer  camps,  combining  the  goalie's  passion  for  helping  kids  with  his  love  for  hockey.  Back  in  Toronto,  Wyatt  sometimes  felt  like  he  could  never  do  enough  outreach,  eventhough  he  was  practically  the  only  one  who  cared.  But  this…  these  camps,  this  is  what  hockey  is  really  about,  isn't  it?  Making  a  difference,  sharing  good  times.  And  watching  kids  put  the  fear  of  the  Hockey  Gods  in  professional  players.

ㅤㅤㅤ"Hey,  did  you  know  there's  a  museum  here  about  the  American  Revolution?"  Wyatt  appears  on  Ryan's  left  side,  companionably  bumping  shoulders  with  the  larger  man  as  they  both  stand  idle  outside  their  hotel  in  Philadelphia.  The  goalie  isn't  even  looking  at  Price,  a  colorful  pamphlet  accordioned  opened  in  front  of  his  face,  the  backside  of  which  is  splashed  with  glossy,  high  definition  photos  a  cracked  church  bell.  Or  something. 

ㅤㅤㅤ“…huh.”  Hazy  says,  intrigued  in  that  way  he  only  gets  when  they're  stuck  in  a  foreign  city  for  a  road  game  and  just  about  anything  beats  hanging  around  the  hotel  for  the  entire  afternoon.  Glancing  at  Ryan,  the  goalie  grins  slowly,  "Do  they  even  teach  us  about  the  American  Revolution  in  Canadian  schools,  Pricey?  I  can't  say  I  remember  that  chapter…”

ㅤㅤㅤWyatt  catches  Shane's  eye  as  the  forward  skates  past  him,  rounding  his  goalposts  like  he's  just  doing  another  lap.  But  his  words  have  got  the  Goalie's  face  splitting  wide  with  a  grin  that's  far  too  visible,  considering  Hazy's  helmet  is  pushed  up  into  his  blonde  curls.  Good  thing  nobody  is  really  looking  at  him  during  pre-game  warmups,  not when  Hollander's  on  the  ice.  “Hell  yeah,  let's  play!  You  gonna  make  Rozy's  old  team  rue  the  day  you  two  became  the  dynamic  duo??” 

ㅤㅤㅤOh,  and  now  Wyatt's  thinking  about  Batman  and  Robin,  and  the  'who-would-be-whomst'  between  Rozanov  and  Hollander.  Well  sorta…  because  obviously  their  Captain  is  Bruce  Wayne,  right?  Except  Shane  Hollander  doesn't  really  give  off  Robin  vibes  so  much  as….  yeah,  ok.  Nightwing. 

ㅤㅤㅤAnd  now  that  Hayes  is  thinking  his  way  down  this  rabbit  hole,  Ilya  really  strikes  him  more  as  a  Red  Hood  archetype  than  he  is  Batman.  But  that  would  make  both  him  and  Shane  former  Robins,  and  how  does  that  even  work? 

ㅤㅤㅤThe  Jumbotron  blares  the  video  montage  that  preludes  the  beginning  of  the  game,  and  Wyatt  is  snapped  out  his  thoughts  with  the  realization  that  he's  only  got  another  five  minutes  on  the  ice  before  they've  got  to  head  back  to  the  tunnel.  The  goalie  drops  seamlessly  into  a  series  of  butterfly  slides,  bouncing  between  his  goalposts  in  a  way  that  appears  jarring  to  anyone  else,  but  is  really  quite  centering.  He  pushes  out  of  the  crease  to  bump  fists  with  Dykstra,  then  takes  a  minute  to  skate  a  slow  lap  of  his  own. 

ㅤㅤㅤ"Let's  play…"  He  mutters,  still  grinning  around  his  mouthguard.  “How  is  it  Hollzy  makes  that  sound  so  ominous?”

RP Wishlist for the Game Changers Muses, based on unhinged discord conversations with @leschanceux and @heatedhollander (thank y'all for indulging me constantly)

When Cliff bodychecks Shane and completely rings his bell during the Montreal vs Boston game, it starts an all out brawl on the ice between players of the opposing teams. But Ilya only has eyes for Shane, and dives over his prone form to keep him from getting crushed by the scrum (think Nikolaj Ehlers protecting Jake Evans after a hard hit from Mark Scheifele in a 2021 playoff game)

Shane and Ilya leading the Ottawa Centaurs on an absolute rampage winning streak, tearing through the other league teams and rage-baiting the shit out of opposing players. (Ilya is particularly ruthless with his chirps during that first Montreal vs Ottawa game, whew. Half the team ends up trying to murder him by the end of the second period)

Now that both Shane and Ilya are on the Centaurs (and married!), Harris takes full advantage of the social media goldmine. He has them do increasingly unhinged reels on Instagram and tiktok, until Ottawa is basically always trending, regardless of who they're playing.

Speaking of going viral: during The Long Game, after Harris posts the images of Ilya and Troy in Christmas sweaters playing with Chiron, a shippy hashtag starts trending for their epic bromance (#Rozarrett, anyone??). Ilya finds it hilarious and starts posting more to egg on the conspiracy theorists.

Wyatt Hayes being just a badass goalie, that occasionally get mixed up in Ilya's and/or Bood's antics on the ice. He must sometimes bodily pluck an unsuspecting Luca out of potential danger when Ilya gets things too heated.

That Soulmark/Soulmate AU that @leschanceux and I started on discord and quickly got out of hand 😏

Ilya struggling with the language barrier and the constant mental fatigue of having to translate everything said to him all the time. Shane being the only one who ever seems to notice (thanks to how he can see through Ilya's bravado), and helping him in subtle sweet ways.

Ilya and Shane playing together as Centaurs and the first, inevitable time that Ilya is the one to get his bell rung by a hard hit.

ㅤㅤㅤWyatt  Hayes  loves  team  outings  with  the  Centaurs.  Maybe  it's  because  he'd  spent  so  many  lackluster  years  in  Toronto,  attending  tacky  parties  (of  questionable  morality)  at  Dallas  Kent's  overrated  bachelor  pad.  Or  maybe  it's  that  he  finally  has  an  entire  roster  of  people  he  genuinely  considers  real  friends.  But  regardless  of  reason,  Hazy  has  not  voluntarily  declined  an  opportunity  to  hang  out  with  his  Ottawa  teammates  since…  well…  probably  since  that  first  barbeque  at  Bood's  house?  Even  when  the  goalie  isn't  drinking,  he's  always  having  a  good  time.

ㅤㅤㅤThe  thing  is…  Wyatt's  a  little  too  easy-going.  He's  not  a  pushover,  of  course,  he  draws  the  line  at  committing  crimes  or  acts  of  cruelty.  But  all  the  same,  Hayes  is  sometimes  so  happy  to  be  invited,  he'll  go  along  with  just  about  anything.  And  that's  why  he  and  Ilya  Rozanov  are  now  stood  at  the  front  counter  of  an  all-night  tattoo  parlor,  his  team  captain  drunkenly  expounding  on  Shane  Hollander's  beautiful  freckles  and  the  portrait  of  the  man  he  absolutely  must  have  tattooed  on  his  spare  pec  (opposite  the  bear). 

ㅤㅤㅤAnd  look.  Hazy  may  not  know  Hollander  as  well  as  he  does  Roz,  but  the  Goalie  has  been  married  a  good  number  of  years  to  a  very  chill  and  amazing  person.  And  because  of  that  (and  a  history  of  his  own  mistakes),  he  feels  pretty  confidentthat  this  is  a  terrible  idea.  Wyatt  wants  to  say  as  much,  but  Ilya  isn't  listening  to  him.  He  just  presses  a  finger  to  Hayes  lips  any  time  he  tries  to  protest,  shushing  loudly  (while  a  bemused  looking  tattoo  artist  watches  them  both).  After  the  third  attempt  to  intercede  fails,  Wyatt  gives  up  and  texts  for  backup. 

ㅤㅤㅤThank  God  Shane  is  Awake.  He  accepts  the  incoming  call.

ㅤㅤㅤ“Holls!”  Hazy  greets,  his  voice  over  the  line  sounding  somewhere  between  relieved,  breathless,  and  panicked.  “..Hey,  um.  What  are  your  thoughts  on  tattoos?….  And,  uh..  self-portraits?” 

ㅤㅤㅤIlya's  head  swings  around,  finally  diverted  from  extolling  on  Shane's  beauty  and  how  it  should  translate  to  an  irreversible  body  modification.  He  looks  at  Wyatt  with  accusing  eyes,  Russian  accent  even  heavier  in  his  state  of  inebriation,  “Hazy,  No!  You  are  ruining  Surprise!”

A  Wyatt  Hayes  starter  for  @hockeyborn

ㅤㅤㅤDay  2  of  this  week's  Game  Changers  Camp  has  drawn  to  a  close,  the  rink  emptying  of  shouting  kids  and  charmed  parents.  Wyatt  skates  a  lazy  lap  around  the  ice,  bending  down  to  scoop  up  the  orange  cones  they'd  used  for  drills,  one  at  a  time  as  he  passes  them.  He's  still  wearing  his  bulky  leg  pads,  but  they  don't  seem  to  be  restricting  the  goalie's  efforts.

ㅤㅤㅤ  "Y'know,  the  first  time  I  heard  about  the  kids'  camps  you  and  Roz  were  planning  for  your  charity,  I  was  kinda  surprised…"  Hazy  says,  gliding  up  alongside  Hollander  to  dump  the  cones  into  the  player's  bench  area.  “Not  because  I  didn't  think  it  was  a  good  idea,  I  love  it,  obviously…”  Grinning  at  Shane,  Wyatt  shrugs.  He  props  an  elbow  on  the  boards,  “But  I  also  have  had  to  share  ice  with  you  two  at  All-Star  games,  and  I  wasn't  sure  this  wouldn't  turn  into  some  kinda  competition…”

ㅤㅤㅤ"I'm  okay,  I'm  okay"  Wyatt  says  it  with  forced  casualness,  speaking  quickly  as  if  getting  the  words  out  before  anyone  can  contradict  them  will  somehow  make  it  more  true.  But  the  goalie  can't  quite  catch  enough  breath  to  speak  with  conviction,  still  half  curled  into  himself  on  the  ice  under  the  net.  Both  he  and  the  goal  post  itself  are  up  against  the  boards  behind  the  trapezoid,  having  been  slammed  into  it  when  the  opposing  team's  forward  crashed  straight  into  them  during  a  bid  to  score.  It's  not  that  Wyatt  hasn't  had  his  bell  rung  before,  but  he's  not  usually  at  the  business  end  of  a  three-man  pile  up,  all  of  'em  over  six-foot-two  and  skating  20  miles  per  hour. 

ㅤㅤㅤJesus Cripes,  the  Goalie  thinks,  Is  this  what  it  feels  like  to  be  smashed  by  the  Hulk? 

ㅤㅤㅤHe  can  sense  the  press  of  a  hand  on  his  shoulder,  even  through  his  thick  padding,  and  Hazy  knows  without  looking  it  must  be  Rozanov.  Nobody  manhandles  him  quite  like  their  Captain,  not  even  Bood.  Sighing,  Wyatt  stops  trying  to  press  himself  upright on the ice  and  instead  rolls  to  his  back,  a  cough  lodged  in  his  chest,  “…Roz.”  He  wheezes,  shaking  his  glove  off  and  pawing  at  Ilya's  hand,  “I  just  need…  a  minute.  Don't  pull  me  out.”

ㅤㅤㅤNothing is broken, Hayes knows that much. And he's pretty sure he doesn't have a concussion. I'm okay, he tells himself. I can do this. It's the playoffs.
