ik this has to do with jack w/ anything but I am curious about your take on Daeron II's childhood/adolescence. when did he start noticing Aegon being kind of the worst and actively trying to be less like him? what's his relationship w/ his family like during the formative years? sorry this is annoying but your take on him is so fascinating to me and I wish to know more!!

I think when Daeron was a baby/toddler it everything was mostly okay – he even idolised his dad, who was still a young and cool knight. Aegon is only 18 when Daeron is born! On the other hand, Aegon was not particularly interested in Daeron, given he had inherited a delicate constitution from Naerys, and he had no interest in babies in general.
When Daeron is still young, he quickly grows to be afraid to his father, of his temper, and he is very aware of his violence towards his mother, and he understands from maybe 3-4 years old that his father doesn’t like him for reasons he doesn't know. For awhile he tries to be what his father wants – tries hard to be bold and aggressive and loud, but Naerys and Aemon discourage this, and it doesn’t last long.
I think he’s about 12 when he starts actively challenging his father, and shaping himself to be his opposite – dignified and cultured and calm. He is intelligent and spirited and young enough that some of his “insolence” is brushed off as naivety. As he enters his teens he gets more and more oppositional, especially as it becomes increasingly undeniable that Aegon is going to be king. By the time of his marriage when he’s 16, he has cultivated a faction around himself at court, and his relationship with Aegon is just… bad, and it does not improve with Aegon’s reactions to Myriah and baby Baelor. It never recovers from his.
Warrior is a cute name though!!! He's pointing to this old as balls dog where he clearly feels like he can relate to it in some way (old and loyal guard/soldier/etc. only trained to do One Thing extremely well slowly beginning to degrade due to age. and time. something they cannot control, even if their sense of duty remains unshaken) and like 'this is a representation of the Warrior's indomitable spirit. if you make fun of it for being old I'm going to fucking lose it'

Dog anon here! Love that you like it!! What name do you think Aemon would give the hound? Me personally I always thought he'd still keep it nameless bc naming things means he has to lose them eventually so he always just thinks of it as 'my hound' even though it's. technically not lol
Oh I really like that idea actually!! I was thinking he would name if after one of the Seven - Crone, maybe, or Warrior, or Mother - he finds it comforting to see the gods in something so simple.
I think Aemon should have an old dog- one the kennel master refuses to put down because it would just be impractical at this point, let the hound die a natural death, it eats so little anyway- that he sometimes just visits when things get rough because he sees himself in it but never tells anyone about. It outlives him
