He may be a bit old, but what do you think of Claes Bang as Marcel? I think he even looks like he could be related to Ruth Wilson.
Hahahah he is one of my choices, even though, like u said, he is a bit older than expected. But I think he couldn't be an incredible Marcel. I do think he could match Ruth too, cause they both have that uncanny, untraditional beauty. I'm in love with him in Dracula, and I definitely think he could pull off Marcel, and if they dress him right, the age wouldn't have to be a problem.
Would you fancast Richard Madden as anyone else, even though he is not Marcel?
hahah i wasn’t expecting people to notice the tag
I think Richard would be an interesting Malcolm, not exactly how I imagine him, but I think he could pull it off. I think he is a bit too old for this, but he could definitely pull off Olivier Bonneville. He has the right vibes I think. Because he is still in his 30s, I’mma say that for La Belle Sauvage, I think he could be a great Bud Schlesinger too. Bud is around his 50s in TSC, which is I think Richard would be better for his LBS cameo, so if I had to pick one of these 3 I’d go with Richard as Bud Schlesinger.
Olivia Coleman really was just made to play Hanna Relf.
hell yeah! @cozcat suggested it to me once and boy, i haven’t been able to unsee that since then. she’s just too perfect for hannah. she has all the range hannah needs; i would just put her there and be like “don’t even act olivia, just be yourself” and she would just be an amazing hannah. bad wolf neglecting hannah was #bad but i suppose they could still slavage by having olivia in season 3. would it be a waste? yes, cause she is a great actor that deserved more screen time. but i wouldn’t mind having her for 5 minutes.
(this is why i’m still mad they didnt bring oakley street into the show)
honestly thank you so much to everyone who is reblogging my hdm fancasts. i know almost none of you follow me so this must seem pretty out of the blue, but it makes me feel when you put such lovely things in the tags — i feel like i’ve accomplished something.
it’s just means a lot when people reflect what i’ve been thinking for years. this was supposed to be brief, i only meant to thank you all, but I’m going to try to explain and to produce some kind of visual reason as to why i chose them.
• lord boreal — charles dance opposite maisie williams in game of thrones was a (lifelong) television highlight for me. it wasn’t even book canon, but i’ll never forget their dynamic onscreen, which was such a fearful (for arya) and grudging (for tywin) respect of each other and yet there was an underlying hatred in arya of him, knowing the part his family played in the death of her father. watching him show his previously unseen paternal side towards this little girl, and not an instant later, he’s subtly warning arya of what he could do to her if she truly insulted or displeased him — i’ve never seen anyone else as lord boreal nor wanted to.
• mrs coulter — evélyne brochu’s character in orphan black was what gave me the idea. personally, i don’t like delphine. but watching her go from sweetly manipulative in the first series, being almost motherly to her lover — to cold and ruthless in the second series, torturing a woman who physically couldn’t fight back — she truly sickens and terrifies me. she draws you in by exuding a kind and loving nature, and then discards the façade when it no longer serves her, only to pick it back up again and wear the disarming smile that becomes her so well. you rarely see that kind of talent, especially from a person who exudes such warmth on and offscreen. and it’s this chameleon characteristic that has all but solidified her in my mind as marisa.
• lord asriel — idris elba astounds me on a daily basis. his presence onscreen, the shiver that his voice produces every time he speaks. watching him in luther was a privilege. his character has so many layers and so many flaws, and a dangerously volatile temper boiling beneath it all. to see him unpicking clues to a murder, being a mentor to his partner to exploding in anger when someone he cares about is in jeopardy, seeing idris elba at work is truly a gift. he gives everything his all, and stuns you — it’s all in a day’s work for him. and it’s knowing that he exudes all the frightening power of asriel every instant he’s onscreen that makes me confident he’d fit the casting.
• mary malone — i initially did not consider gemma chan for her. it did not even dawn on me that an actress with chinese heritage would be the most fitting. but somebody on tumblr pointed it out (and it was the biggest aha moment…i have forgotten who, i apologise, but to whom it was, thank you, so are so right!) i have watched gemma almost exclusively in the amc tv series humans (and i highly recommend it) as a sentient robot capable of all the emotions and experiences of a human. gemma possesses a kindness that easily and smoothly becomes part of every character i’ve seen her play. her character mia is nurturing and a natural with children — something mary is admittedly not, but her infinitely layered performance has struck a chord with me that i can’t get out of my head. she’s trusting and yet suspicious, she’s loving and yet merciless. she is impulsive and yet unmoving. she is, despite the success of amc’s humans, one of the most unappreciated actresses of the 21st century.
• balthamos — i hadn’t even stopped to think about who i would like cast as balthamos until I began to make the fancast edits. and although perfume: the story of a murderer has to be one of my favorites of his, ben whishaw was, to my surprise, already cemented in my mind as balthamos from his role as Q in the james bond films. the frustration that seems to be a character trait, his eternally raised eyebrow, his dry sarcasm and subtly hilarious back-and-forth relationship with daniel craig makes him perfect. and, he is lgbt+ which is, although for actual casting directors, not relevant, it warms me to him even more as i am lgbt+ myself.
thank you for reading, and i hope it wasn’t too hard to follow. i am not good at explaining things so i did my best, and again, thank you for supporting my fancasts. it means a lot.
