under giant mountains (a drarry fic)

“Come on, Potter. It’s the perfect time to shower. It’s dark. No one will see you.”

Harry flushed. “You’ll see me!”

“I’ll cover my eyes,” Malfoy slurred, picking up his glass and waving it around in a loose grip.

Which was how Harry ended up walking down to Malfoy’s cabin in the dark with nothing but the pale, yellowed glow of a Lumos orb to guide the way. His footsteps were drunkenly careful and when the tip of his toes connected with the edge of a root, he gasped and slumped forward, grabbing hold of Malfoy’s forearm for balance.

“Easy,” Malfoy muttered, solid and warm and so fucking tall, like a tree. He righted Harry and patted him on the back before letting go again, and Harry resisted the urge to grab hold of his arm once more, to link their elbows together and keep close. To climb up his stupid spindly body and sniff his stupidly great-smelling hair.

“The last time we were stuck in the woods together, you ran away and left me,” Harry whispered. He shivered when he heard the distant hoot of an owl and the scurry of little feet somewhere in the bushes nearby.

“We were eleven, and there was a blood-sucking maniac supping up unicorn entrails,” Malfoy said. “I was smart.”

Harry doesn't know where he's going. Everyone else has their life paths figured out; he doesn't even know where his map is. Who'd have thought Draco Malfoy bathing in a Norwegian forest would be the guidepost Harry needed? In which Harry's trip to Norway to visit dragon-wrangler Ron introduces him to hikes from hell, mysterious natural magic, foraging, magical bathing, a new and bizarre friendship, and the frustrating, heady allure of his former nemesis turned sexy globetrotting field researcher.

My entry for this year's @hdsudsfest was an absolute blast to write and I couldn't have done it without these amazing people: @academicdisasterfic @oknowkiss @kbrick @the-sinking-ship @sorrybutblog @the-starryknight. One of the first crimes the Death Eaters committed upon occupying Hogwarts was to gratuitously vandalise the Prefects' Bath. The mermaid's window was found destroyed, a devastating and baffling spray of clear glass shards on the floor. The mystery was solved during restoration when the mermaid was discovered unharmed, having fled in time to a third-floor gallery of paintings of the Black Lake. Because she now had friends and neighbours who spoke Mermish, she declined to return to the Prefects' Bath. The window was repaired with the now-colourless glass, and the Prefects' Bath, no longer obliged to keep itself dark and consistent, began demonstrating self-expression, making itself different every day. Harry and Draco share fraught history from the dungeons up to the Astronomy Tower and all the way out to the Forbidden Forest. It can seem like no part of Hogwarts could ever foster a fresh start, but it’s easier to be someone you’ve never been before in a place that's always new. Suds Lite 2023 - Guidelines

This year the mods have decided to relax into the bubbles and de-stress. Therefore we are running a self-posting fest for 2023!

The Suds Lite collection will be open between 1st October and 25th November and you are free to post your work at any time between those dates.

To get your soapy juices flowing we will be having a round of prompting which will open on 16th August. You can prompt as many times as you like, and creators will be free to choose from the prompts or use a self-prompt. Prompting will close on 31st August.

🧼 Rules:

Works must be inspired by bathing, washing, or getting soapy.

Works must feature Drarry as the main pairing.

Fics must be beta read and tagged appropriately.

No minimum word count for fic (drabbles and poetry are welcome!).

Podfics or remixes of any kind must have the consent of the original author

No AI-created art or fic please.
