Interviewer: So what about the incongruity between your at times progressive rhetoric and the fact that you court rich donors?
Pete Buttigieg: Machiavelli once said: “Men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, for everyone can see and few can feel. Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are.” I also know how to say “My name is Peter. What’s your name? May I sit here?” in Norwegian: Mitt navn er Peter. Hva heter du? Kan jeg sitte her? When I attended Harvard I often reflected upon how puritanism influenced U.S. foreign policy, and I also devoured the literature of Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, and Milton trying to fuse the common threads these authors and their universal works had. I love my husband and love by the way is what keeps the world together, and as a gay man .... love.
Interviewer: **crying** wow
