Even now, he tried NOT to tense at that. However, his body betrayed him, hands tightening on his scythe as he silently hoped his robes hid that little involuntary movement.
It was no lie that Licorice was nervous by nature. He tensed and jumped at a lot of things, even things other cookies didn't, like someone simply putting their hand in his shoulder. He really couldn't count the number of times he'd almost clocked someone cold with his scythe for sneaking up on him, surprising him or touching him suddenly.
It didn't help that even he knew deep down that he was neurotic...But those last words 'expecting to be told off for being alive'. He frowned deeply, he knew what he meant and he couldn't deny it.
Licorice felt like his soul was being stared directly into, that he was vulnerable before him.
What could he say? How could he react? He could be an arrogant asshole, get defensive and angry, or say something sarcastic - his usual defensive tactics. However, even if he did, he was certain it'd backfire.
Was there a use in playing the age-old game of pushing others away?
"You would too, if you were me. It's not like Dark Enchantress is easy to please, you know." He spoke those words in defeat.
What else could he do, when even he knew their truth?
