HC 1 Title

This was the first installment of the Headcrew, but not the first one I ever drew. There are a bunch of test comics I shared with Bieeanshee. I'll share them all eventually, even though the chronology of the comic never reached them.

This comic displays each of the central characters in the comic, which is good for an intro!

Funny story, this comic is based on a text ministory Bieeanshee wrote about the Crew visiting Toronto. We refitted it for the internet instead, because it was just too perfect. Also, I'm pretty proud of the fancy outfit I gave our "supervillain."

HC 11 Panic Cycle

That is probably the worst loveseat* I've ever drawn. I'm pretty proud of the motorcycle & sidecar though, and the helmet with room for Anxiety's mohawk is pretty cool too. I actually drew panel 2 live on stream on my Twitch Channel. Also, Fundament is back!

* Biee actually called it "the loatheseat" in all of her scripts.

HC 10 Damp

I like this comic. It was very straightforward and had a kind of quiet-moment animation feel to it. The fun part of storyboarding it is that it only had one quick exchange and we managed to get 4 panels out of it.

I improvised the sign on the side of the hamper and when I showed it to Biee, she said "Fundament put that sign there."

HC 9 Recycling

In some ways Brain is slightly harder to sum up than, say, Anxiety or even Fundament. She's not Jae's smarts, so much as she is Jae's thoughts, sense of whimsy, interests, desires, and kinks (Biee said Brain is Jae's largest sexual organ.) She encourages Jae, and Jae can't always deal with it. She's also more phantasmal and shape-changery than the rest of the Headcrew, which Biee once said relates to "neuroplasticity." Each of the Headcrew also kind of has a genre, and Brain's kind of a cross between spooky, goth, ghost stories and silly slapstick cartoons.

HC 13 Polar

Yay! We just got to the comic where I got to draw Fundament nude! (plus bath towel, but still.)

One of the elements we never really got a chance to spell out in the comic but was a thing Biee and I established together; Jae is a weirdness magnet. Strange things are attracted to and/or manifest around her. It's like... a combination of "Try not to think of a pink elephant and a pink elephant appears...." and being a beacon for strange entities and phenomenon. Think "If a setting like Gravity Falls was a person." It's a combination of Biee's offbeat sense of humor and giving me free reign to draw polar bears riding snowmobiles in the margins.

HC 8 Riddles Three

We've all been here.

I am really very happy with how I drew Brain's "animation" in this comic. I think the movement is very fun and very /her./

But Biee's dialogue really captures that moment when our brains stops being helpful.

HC 7 Time Panic

It's time for a comic that shows an aspect of the ...complicated relationship between Jae and (her) Anxiety. Oh gosh, have I mentioned the protagonist's name is Jae yet? I'm sorry!

Also... outing myself as being bad at drawing exercise gear. I do think their gym outfits look cute though!

HC 5 Eggs

You guys I spent so much time on that fried egg! You don't even know! I created layers for the burns and smoke! Yes, I sometimes complicate a simple job.

So this is "Stomach," a character who tragically shows up only a couple of times in the webcomic, though she appears more often in Biee's later writing. She is always hungry and treats Jae as a mobile feeding unit; even calling her "MOUTHLING!" Biee describes her as resembling the Snow Queen from "The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe." She also said Stomach is a dragon, even if she looks otherwise. It was fun trying to get that across in her design and text (always in caps.)

Also, I'm really proud of coming up with the text for the apron. Biee said it was such a Brain garment. :)
