Glittering Garnet // Emilia & Noi
“It’s the weekend! Hooray!”
Emilia smiled as the gray cat that was perched on her shoulder flung his tiny paws into the air and expressed his exuberance. “Puck.. Not that I don’t agree, but.. We talked about this!” Her smile quickly turned into the tiniest pout. “You should stay hidden when we’re out like this.”
There were no projects or work to be done and Emilia was allowed to sleep in for a few extra hours. While the estate she lived on would have served more than adequately for a leisurely stroll, Emilia wanted to breathe in the city air and drink in the sights of Shizume. The glass from the buildings glittered like diamonds in the sunlight, and the large TV erected on one of the tall buildings had such a fluid and seamless screen that projected anything on display with perfect clarity that it seemed to her life-like. The city was alive and bustling with life. It was a far cry from the quiet and calm of the estate.
If Puck was displeased by this, he didn’t make it known as his lips were curved into a perpetual smile as he cozied up closer to Emilia’s neck, using her silver hair to shroud his form. Finding this to be adequate, Emilia’s expression softened. This part of Shizume sported small businesses that lined the streets and Emilia couldn’t help but to peer into them as she walked, taking care that the heels of her mary janes did not get caught in any cracks or lines in the sidewalk. She kept particular distance from a taller male that walked in front of her. He was dressed casually in a lose fitting t shirt, shorts, with shaggy brown hair that tapered past his neck and headphones adorning his head and covering his ears. He walked onward carelessly as did Emilia until something made Puck’s single erect ear twitch. A sound that he could pick up through the chatter and noise surrounding them.
The loud roar of an engine and the squeal of tires gave Puck an uneasy feeling as he peered out further beyond the veil of silver that was Emilia’s hair. The source of the noise was not immediately apparent, but Puck could sense it would soon be upon them and just as he suspected, he watched the crowded crosswalk part as people shouted, scrambling out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. Emilia remained oblivious to this. Shizume was always loud so the sounds did not immediately alarm her. It was Puck with his quick thinking who decided to finally alert the girl as the car veered towards them.
Emilia immediately halted mid stride and quickly turned her head from side of side, knowing that Puck wouldn’t prank her and thus took his caution seriously. She fixed her gaze towards the oncoming vehicle and just barely managed to jump out of the way at Puck’s additional urging. Her movements were clumsy and she stumbled, crashing to the ground at approximately the same moment that the car drove right into one of the small shops, shattering the window completely. The light green dress Emilia wore did little to shield her as she ended up with minor scrapes on her fair skin, but overall she had escaped the worst of it.
The male that had been walking in front of her had not been so lucky.
Emilia didn’t realize this until the large, burgundy SUV pulled back and screams of agony filled the air. Whoever the driver was, they decided not to stick around fled the scene in their vehicle. What was left in the wake of the aftermath was not only a damaged building, but the male who on account of the loud music blaring from his headphones, had not been alerted and did not make it out in time. The vehicle had run straight over his legs. It was a terribly horrible mental image, but it looked like they had been reduced to jelly. The bones jut out, jagged and snapped as muscle was exposed and blood pulled all around him. The only evidence of how this happened were the bloody tire tracks that extended towards the street and then faded out so that the vehicle no longer had any trail to follow.
Emilia was horrified by this as she sat there on her legs, her hands covering her mouth as she watched the male writhe in pain. Even Puck, who generally wore a carefree smile on his face looked grim. “Lia..” He began, more concerned for the girl whose thoughts were laced with guilt and regret. “There’s nothing you could have done.” Even if Puck had sound reasoning, even if Emilia had just barely gotten away herself, she still felt that she could have helped in some way. Even now she was thinking on what she could do.. There was one thing. That skill. But if she used it in front of all these people...
She lowered her hands and shook her head, her lips drawn taut as she resolved herself to it. Why did it matter what anyone thought when someone’s life hung in the balance? At the very least she could stave off death for him until suitable help arrived. Emilia scrambled to her feet and hurried over to the male’s side, wincing at the mangled remains of his legs as she knelt down beside him. “Hang on, OK? Don’t be scared. I’m going to help you, OK?” She did her best to reign in the wavering in her voice and sound as reassuring as she could and then held her hands over the male’s form, her brows knit in concentration. Iridescent crystals sprang up around his body and then encased his form entirely.
“S-Someone! Is anyone here a doctor?!” She called out, trying to project her voice as loudly as she could. It wasn’t exactly a cold day and there was a chance her ice could melt so for now it was only a temporary measure to keep him alive and pain free for as long as possible.
