Song 7-- “One Of My Turns”-- Pink Floyd

Fran is trying, truly she is, but Todd/Yellow can sense her recent hesitance, her slowly distancing herself from them. But she shouldn’t. It’s not fair of her. They’re trying so hard for her, so damn hard. And they’re not becoming that much more volatile, she’s just being unreasonable. Everything is still fine. Really. It’s just a passing phase. One of their bad days.

Song 4-- “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3″-- Coheed and Cambria

the stress of keeping a balance between Todd and Yellow is taking its toll. The only thing they can agree on is Fran. They love Fran. They start making promises to Fran to keep her around, but ones she’s not sure she wants to hear. “For you, I’d so anything just to make you happy... for you my love I would kill...” Kill whom? Tello? Someone else? Is the internal pressure making him too unstable? What does Fran do?

Song 3-- “Counterfeit Florida Plates”-- the Mountain Goats

The fighting over whose head it is, the constant confusing voices and opinions, makes it hard to figure out who is real and who isn’t. It’s very scary and turns out to be too hard to live respectfully. Todd (Yellow? Tello??) ends up back on the streets. Does anyone help him? Does he learn to deal with the voices tearing at him? Did we just make this poor guy schizophrenic?

“Linoleum”-- NoFX

K, Sal, song 1-- A young punk living on nothing, but maybe doesn’t care? Does he get his life together and settle down, or does he remain free and capricious? Or is the upbeat sound in this song a mask that eventually cracks to something sadder/angrier/darker? Does he remain alone, or find someone to share his linoleum floor with?

because I saw an old friend from high-school today, and he just basically embodies this track perfectly, can we call him Todd? :D

D-- oh, man you know my chronic obsession with relating songs to characters! But let’s see, most recently… I’ve been Firefly-ing again, so “King of the Gutters, Prince of the Dogs” by Murder By Death for Mal, and “Keep on the Sunny Side” by The Whites (I’ve also been rewatching O Brother Where Art Thou) for Kaylee. I’ll get my full Firefly playlist made up in full one of these days...

P-- Hm.. hard not to cheat a bit because I already know a bunch of your tastes, but just going off of the vintage, gothy trend on most of your blog... the first thing that comes to mind is actually the “Jockey Full of Bourbon” cover by Youn Sun Nah. Has that high-class, vintage femme fetale slink to it that I think about when I see all of your stuff. (I know. Barely counts because I already know you’re a Tom Waits junkie, but still.)

T-- so many... ohh, I just picked up a copy of Beelzebubba, so why don’t we go with “Punk Rock Girl”-- Dead Milkmen. ahh, silly teenage infatuation.

That town crier was totally unofficial. Kensington Palace sent the announcement to the press by email, and then put the typed announcement on the easel at Buckingham Palace. That gent is a wingnut, is all. Which is possibly even cuter.

I still love it, even if it saddens me that the Palace doesn’t actually endorse his pageantry. Oh well!

Currently watching the ABCs of Death 2, so I'll ask my favourite instalments - B, C, E, X... (I could actually ask you most of the alphabet based on this, so I'm being very fussy)

Best sequel? First instinct is of course to say Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I was also a big fan of the Protector of the Small Series by Tamora Pierce, so I’ll also name Page.

Currently reading? The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. Also The Fellowship of the Ring, because I’ll be teaching it this summer. Just finished Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, which is great and has some very timely observations for those of us following the police brutality controversy here in the US.

E-reader or physical books? Both! I love e-readers when I travel, and sometimes you can get really great deals price-wise. But I will always love physical books.

27th book on the shelf is The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen, which I just recently bought and is next on the to-read list.
