So here's the story... . One of our homerooms saw some pictures of the flooding in Houston right after #HurricaneHarvey. . One of those homeroom students sent a text to her aunt who works in the Houston school district. . Her aunt sent us a link to a list of schools needing to be adopted by other schools. . We chose a school that was fairly similar to ours in demographics. . We had homerooms and clubs making flyers, letters, and a video to get the word out in the school about our #HeartofaTiger campaign. . Students and staff collected money for over two weeks. . People asked their family and friends to donate. . One of our students donated $40 by earning it from doing some yard work. (I love that SO MUCH.) . Our art classes and many other classes created encouragement cards to send. . Our staff signed multiple cards to send to their staff. . After all the money was collected and the cards were packaged, we shipped our box yesterday to Houston! We were able to send 1400+ student cards, 160 staff cards, and $1000 to our RMS family in Texas. . I am so proud to be part of my school! Our students and our staff are some of the best! . And thank you to my generous family and friends who donated! Without you, this wouldn't have been possible! Thanks for supporting my kids' heart to spread some kindness and generosity to those who need it. You all are fantabulous!

We are near the end of our #HeartofaTiger campaign at school to collect money to send to Revere Middle School in Houston, TX. We will still be collecting and counting the last of the money on Monday, though, so it’s not too late to send your money (in person or electronically through paypal.me/TJCapalla or www.venmo.com/tjcapalla) if you would like to donate! I would love to have another $200 so that we could send a nice round number. 😊 The money will be used to help students and families who were affected by #HurricaneHarvey. . I am so proud of our students and staff and what they accomplished! The majority of our students come from low income families, and yet they collected hundreds of dollars to give. . On top of that, our students created 1400 encouragement cards to send to the students at Revere Middle School. I’m so thankful for our art teacher for organizing and executing that part of the project! On top of that, she created cards for their RMS staff, and she made sure our RMS staff signed many of those cards. . I am so privileged to get to work at Rialto Middle. It really is the best. 😊 Thank you all for your support!

I had nine students who chose to write a letter to ask people to contribute to our #HeartofaTiger campaign to send money to a middle school in Houston whose students may have been affected by #HurricaneHarvey. Some chose to send their letter to a business. One student sent hers to her family, and one student picked an assembly person. It will be interesting to see what comes of it! . If anything, at least my kids got a chance to practice writing letters and addressing envelopes. Snail mail is a lost art. 😆 .
