"Dante has died." ( from Krissy!!! )
“…..has died.” finish it in my ask.
Olivia could remember in vivid detail how the idea of Dante becoming a victim to the violence surrounding his father haunted her in the years he was growing up. The first year of his life, she was certain that she hadn’t gotten a full night’s sleep at all due to the nightmares that kept her awake at night. She’d always been so terrified that she’d lose him if anyone learned the truth of his paternity. That was why she soiled her own reputation in Bensonhurst to ensure that her boy, her precious baby boy, would never be put in the crossfire of his father’s chosen line of work. It had never been out of teenage jealousy or bitterness about the way he’d left things with her, it had always been about protecting the child that had become the center of her world the very moment she found out she was pregnant with him.Dante’s chosen profession once he was old enough left her nights sleepless as well. Being a cop was almost as dangerous as being a criminal, especially in New York where crime littered the city. She remembered when he first became a cop, how embarrassed he’d been by the fact that she called the station looking for him almost every two hours to make sure that he hadn’t gotten hurt and was safe. Due to her family being full of cops, her boy was teased constantly about his mommy. That had never changed now that he was older. The way the world was turning out, left her in fear that she would get the phone call or news that would shatter her entire world. Every time her phone rang, she’d pause for a moment to take a deep breath and prepare herself for what could be said on the other line. But even in prepping for the worst, Olivia was never going to be prepared to hear those words.Dante has died.
Olivia studied the face of Dante’s little sister, waiting for her to confirm that this was all some sort of nightmare that she would wake up from. A hard lump formed in her throat, tears welled up in her eyes, and she grabbed hold of the nearest surface to steady herself from fainting due to the lightheadedness that plagued her in the moment. “No,” Her tone was pleading, like she was moments away from begging the younger woman to tell her it wasn’t true. She felt like everything was crumbling around her. “No, please. Tell me y’oah wrong,” She managed to choke out and within seconds, had it not been for her brother rounding the corner in that moment to catch her, Olivia would have fallen to the floor in hysterics.
