so theres this song called “hei erna”, which is a greeting and the name of the prime minister of norway…
and i honestly love the song n the music video?? like it’s so clever. it largely depicts like this dude, who’s like stereotypically dressing norwegian..
n like the song is sort of like “we focus way more on saying fish is what we value, while we’re destroying the planet”.. n the depiction of this national romantic imagery, is basicly like mocking how ppl always talk of “norwegian values”.
n like, ppl always say it’s fish or waffles or skiing or whatever.. n like? no mention of moral code. n it’s like mocking how the conservative parties r talking of these values, meanwhile our government is pushing for more oil boring, and this summer the police let nazis march our streets.
n while that was going on, the government wasnt publicly acknowledging it.. instead they were talking about how waffles r valuable to us.. what about democracy? equality? the environment? our fjords and forests?
norway often claims to be rly lgbt+ friendly, meanwhile the government is doing nothing about the poor conditions of trans ppl, and also they make no critique of ppl marching against lgbtq+ rights and encouraging hanging gay people.
like, hey erna, get your priorities straight? we’re destroying the earth meanwhile people are talking about fish as a value.
this last paragraph is btw partial translations of the lyrics, and it’s just such a good song, the satire n snarky tone.. and its political relevance is so on point. our government is shite n times r terrifying n our planet is slowly deteriorating.. and it’s nice coming across critical music that acknowledges this.
