Today's train sketches are something special. I took an early ICE to Munich to ride my beloved Class 420 trains - with music, doodles, and a view of the Alps. Munich now runs most of the units I grew up with in Stuttgart, and meeting them again is something I cherish. <3

A snapshot from the last weekend - me and my little princess, our old lady and noble queen. One of the simplest and best recipes for happiness is the mixture of sunny weather, a high-pressure cleaner and... our dearly-loved Class 420 unit. <3 <3 Still happy every day that we made it this far, that she’s still here.
Another little music video :) Made with the recordings I brought from last weekend’s rounds around Munich. A bit of winter landscape, a bit of foggy evening, and a little bit more of the good old Class 420.

Almost two years after the farewell tour of the Class 420 trains in my home region, I finally found the perfect song for a little music video of the recordings. Spent a good chunk of the night cutting the video, and I think it captures the mood of that day fairly well, swinging between the sounds and looks and motions we’ve known for many years, people armed with cameras, and the imminent farewell.
The music’s “East Coast Racer” by Big Big Train, a song about the fastest steam locomotive on Earth. A fitting theme, isn’t it? :)
Today, 40 years ago, one of my favorite Class 420 trains was put into service - it’s the one and only 420 278. The image shows him arriving at Oberursel, the town of which he bore the municipal coat of arms for several years. The unit has been disassembled in 2015, but it will always be one of the anchors of the buzz that was 2005 for me. Taka “is” 420 278 - he’s the reflection and condensed expression of all the little adventures we had back then. :)
Summer is near when the sunshades of the unstaffed driver cabins are pulled down again! 420 447 and 420 434 in Backnang on April 9th, 2015.
