belial. the father of lies. who invokes untruth. lust. guilt. wickedness. temptation.
true definition in hebrew texts; "belial" (בְּלִיַּעַל) signifies worthlessness or wickedness. derived from two words: "beli-" (בְּלִי, meaning "without") and "ya'al" (יָעַל, meaning "to be of value"). known as the one who dwells in the dark. who shall never rise. there's no salvation for one created by lucifer, or perhaps god himself, as a player upon the heavenly field before the fall. companion and soldier of cain; the first son and first murderer. who walked a path of destruction and watched entire cities fall in the wake of giving into the script of corruption penned for their unwitting souls to fall prey to. if only for god's amusement and nothing else.
rumored to be who the christians deemed satan. lucifer. or the antichrist. so much is shrouded in belial's history. being crafted and honed in the art of manipulation and cloaked in mistruth and festering misinformation--his story is purposefully left up to dozens of interpretations. every culture has their own unique version and perspective of what he represents. whether they be close to truth or not? the demon never paid them much mind in the beginning and thrived upon the chaos of confusion that his name would bring. in the aftermath of his disappearance--he has done nothing to turn the narrative in any other direction than where humanity and the hand of god, chuck, guided his tale.
half-truths and lies keep much of his origin and earlier years in mystery. though much of the message is the same. belial existed as another check and balance to heaven's power. a cosmic leash placed upon overly righteous servants that may grow too bold, too independent for the creator's ever shifting vision. disenchantment crafted by lucifer's growing disdain for the god that made them nothing more than a cosmic chess game was inevitable. too much free will. a flaw in his character's penmanship. oh, but it made it far too easy to disconnect from the plotline all together. and start to narrate his own story. and the blood, both heavenly and that of man, spilled by his hands or in his (or that of his kind's) name was the ink.
after laying eyes upon a desperate, pleading son of adam as he begged for his brother's salvation while swallowing his own damnation to guarantee it--belial was the first to come to cain and accept the mark fully aware of the meaning behind the gesture and well aware of the bloodlust and hunger that was stamped within it. did he know the extent of what that binding would do? would he answer you honestly if you asked? even now? debatable.
