( SAM HEUGHAN, HE/HIM ) behold! there’s ( AARIK RAGNARSSON ), the ( YOUNGEST HEIR OF HEDEBY ). he is ( TWENTY-SEVEN ) and known as ( BENEVOLENT ) but also ( OVERLY EMOTIONAL ). hedeby is the land of wealth and opportunity, will you stand with hedeby, or are you against it?
For as long as anyone can remember, Aarik has been as gentle as a lamb. The night he was born was quiet and warm, a lilting breeze singing through the bush and welcoming in Ragnar’s second and final son, a bright baby boy, who didn’t so much as thrash about, let alone weep.
Much of Aarik’s reputation puts him in a negative light as a ‘baby’ and a ‘coward’ and ‘too weak’ [though this isn’t necessarily true]. He’s a fierce fighter on the battlefield, always the first to lend a helping hand, but his heart usually gets the better of him, and paints the picture of him being sort of a pussy [but he is NOT].
When he was twenty-five, he met an older woman, named Alfhild. She was fifteen years his senior, and they engaged in an affair that was met with much disapproval. Aarik fell head-over-heels in love with Alfhild, but it was clear to just about everyone but Aarik that she didn’t hold the same passion.
When she left him [which was inevitable], Aarik was an emotional wreck. He sobbed and begged for her to stay, making a rather large scene in front of his people, but to no avail. Two years later, he’s still getting over his heart being shattered to pieces, and the scrutiny of people who now see him as an emotional weakling, not fit to stand in and lead anyone, let alone Hedeby or it’s people.
Talented and dexterous on the battlefield, Aarik also enjoys carving and crafting. He’s a tinkerer, always finding something to work on or make. He enjoys woodworking the most.

basically he’s a very clumsy and troubled, very much his mother’s son; too caring and compassionate for his father’s taste & the lifestyle he set up for him which very much consisted of being a warrior and a perfect Man’s Man
VERY crafty and can pretty much make a shirt or a weapon out of anything you throw at him (but he’s not very good at using the weapons himself but he tries lol), does very well outdoors and is very Sneaky (he would often hide from his father up in trees or across to other communities on foot when he’d beckon him for training as a child)

TDLR; bastard child of a noble who rose to recognition through bloodshed.
+ Bo Jeong–respected part of the military, shield sister, and resident goofball. However, it hasn’t always been this way [except perhaps the goofball part]. Everything in Jeong’s life has come about by circumstance and coincidence. She was never imbued with privilege, never chosen, never meant to inherit or be anything. In fact, the only thing she should be now is dead.
+ Jeong came into the world the same way she wants to go out–bloody and screaming. The result of an affair between a prominent noble and a foreign prostitute. Her mother, not suited for a child by any means, traveled far within the Hedebian wilderness to seek out a mythic magic woman, whom she heard would be able to help her.
+ Finally arriving, she begged the magic woman, Freydis, to rid her of the child growing within her. Not one to do something for free, Freydis demanded payment, but Jeong’s mother had nothing to give–except her unborn child. Pleased with this trade, Freydis delivered Jeong–early, and tiny, but healthy–leaving her mother to die in the process. She hadn’t even tried to save her, and why should she? What was another prostitute in a weary world?
+ Jeong spent a good chunk of her childhood harbored away from society, hunkered down with Freydis and her dark magic and lore. Her gods are those that are banished, hidden away from the eyes of society and only willing to give their gifts to those who they’ve deemed worthy. Freydis weaved spells, blood, legends, and secrecy into Jeong, and despite her young age, she remembers every dark moment of it. Lore and legends are something very real to Jeong–she’s extremely superstitious.
+ When Jeong was eight, Freydis perished during a monthly blood ritual. Deeply religious, Freydis never faltered or skipped one of these, even in her old, cracked and weary age. She died beneath a full moon, blood soaking into soil, cursing at Jeong for crying in the face of their gods.
+ Food soon ran dry. Dirty and starving, Jeong ventured to the inner population of Hedeby, and soon became a vagabond–stealing, cheating, doing anything for her next meal. She spent many times locked away–but at least she had a meager slice of bread guaranteed behind bars. Taking pity on the frequent visitor, an old onlooker suggested that she think of a more honest way to earn her bread. This is when Jeong takes up the lute.
+ She was quite good, and became very popular among the locals, even adding new strings to her instrument to create an entirely new sound. The shieldmaidens of Hedeby were rather fond of this young, orphan girl, whose charm was just as swoon-worthy as her playing. They took her under their wing, and induced her into the order.
+ She’s played a big role in many a battle, rising from nobody to purely recognizable by the passerby. It was only then that her father “legitimized” her--though, her half-siblings aren’t too happy about this arrangement.
+ Despite her witty and chaotic nature, Jeong is fiercely loyal to Hedeby and it’s people. She would do anything to ensure their safety and keep, and has no interest in pursuing anything else. Her love only fuels her fighting–making her a force to be reckoned with, indeed. She fights as an equal among her fellow warriors, and takes pride in it. She still plays that same lute–and she’s still quite good.

tbh, runa gives me thorunn vibes?? from a young age, she’s watched shieldmaidens come and go and always wanted to be like them. she grew up with a mother figure in her life and relied on her fisherman dad to raise her. they were close and still are. it was told that her mother was murdered either by a nearby village or the oversea chrisitans. either way, anyone outside of hedeby poses as a threat to runa and she’s willing to fight for vengance for her momma.
runa considers herself one of the guys -- like a full-on tomboy, minus the glorious beard and ugly grunting. you can always find her drinking with them if she’s not with her dad or doing some sort scrimmage with them. yeah, she’s a bit of an idiot, but she finds it fun. “a big weirdo”.
runa doesn’t see herself settling down quite yet because she feels like she hasn’t met or found her true companion yet. she is bisexual and has had female companions here and there, but never something permanent. she’s free-wheeling and is proud of it.
i THINK that that is it for now? i wrote half of this last night when i was delirious, so i’m sorry if doesn’t make full sense and choppy. but regardless, if anyone wants to plot with her or has some WC, i’m open!
