Hemwick grave woman?
GIRLS NIGHT
Thinking about Rune Tool guy again
I am yet again with the ideas rather than with solid theories however I want to share a thought? Ok so, there is this person in Witch's Abode which you pick Rune Workshop tool from, right?
I just got an idea that the fact this guy was tied to a chair and there are papers scattered around exactly around him AND Rune tool is found on him might be connected as in, like
Hunter can only memorize three runes, and one extra rune if it is a version of one of the previously memorized (so, three and a half haha). But lorewise how is this explained? So, what if this WAS an experiment TO learn how many runes can be memorized by a human before their brain shuts down? So lorewise that's how hunters know to not risk keeping more than 'three and a half' in their mind!
This also appears to be a normie Yharnam hunter set, which is why I don't think they ARE Caryll, just a commoner, most likely unwilling in the experiment considering the mood of the location but we don't know, maybe back then voluntering for these was a thing. Heck, maybe Caryll THEMSELVES condoned this experiment! Or:
You know this theory about this statue behind memory altar where you DO memorize the runes being Caryll, or at least reflecting something relevant to the runes? Especially with this stitch on the forehead. Statues like these are also in dungeons near doorways you enter where runes can be found? (correct me if I am wrong). I for one used this stitch on the forehead to headcanon that Caryll had surgery to get literal eyes in the brain (hence that scar) for channeling runes easily and write down as many as possible before her body shuts down from the process. But not only to some extent runes were already known concept to human(oids) before:
But there is also architecture like this in Hemwick:
So, heck, seeing how Witches of Hemwick actually gained some arcane powers by literally covering themselves with eyes, and how variant of a Witch without eyes is called eyes collector, perhaps some eyes and runes shenanigans were already practiced in Hemwick amongst witches before Byrgenwerth took it a bit on a different level? Hemwick was not ALWAYS in such a state, after all.
So uhhhh new idea? Maybe Caryll, actually, was one of the witches or at least born in Hemwick overall? They probably could have accepted one as a scholar before things got THAT bad with Hemwick! And maybe experiment with that hunter was, in fact, performed by them!
Gangs and gang warfare were basically endemic to 19th-century cities, so I headcanon that back in its heyday, Yharnam had more gangs than you could shake a stick at. Gangs for rich Yharnamites, gangs for poor Yharnamites, gangs for Hunters, gangs for Hemwick, gangs for Cainhurst, gangs for The Executioners, gangs for The Choir, gangs for Mensis. People from Cainhurst often had it rough when they came to town (when they did at all), because they were outnumbered 10-1 by people who hated them. The Choir and Mensis were the worst offenders when it came to brawling in the streets, followed only by Cainhurst expatriates and The Executioners.
