Daily MCO Srink #541, MCO Day #543: GLOOM LIFTER, made with 45ml Jameson Black Barrel Irish whiskey, 15ml Hennessy VSOP Cognac, 5ml grenadibe syrup, 7.5ml simple syrup, 20ml lemon juice, shaken over ice and strained. GAHHH WHYYY GRENADINE, WHYYYY. Saw this recipe on Difford’s Guide and I groaned as soon as I saw it in the ingredients list. I used as little of it as possible and still that sickly sweet taste stood out, smothering all the goodness of the Jameson and Hennessy. I actually made it again, this time WITHOUT the grenadine, and it was sooo much better, and actually DID lift my gloom somewhat. It turns out that David Embury’s 1948 book ‘The Fine Art Of Mixing Drinks’ also has a “Gloom Lifter”, with egg white, no grenadine but alas, no cognac as well. Which pretty much just makes it an Irish Whiskey Sour. #hennessy #hennessymy ##henessyvsop #jameson #jamesonblackbarrel #irishwhiskeyday #mytipsyturvy #dailymcodrink #tipsyturvycocktails #tipsyturvywhisky #tipsyturvycognac #cocktails https://www.instagram.com/p/CTufElWJ6MX/?utm_medium=tumblr
