The way I see it in terms of Mike's relationships with the OG Core 4 throughout the seasons

s1 - Mike not only wanting Will back, but to fix his fractured party as all the boys were distressed/traumatized about Will's vanishing

s2 - Byler (really focused on Mike and Will's dynamic solely, openly saw Mike's jealous/protective side kick in, and got the crazy together/shed scene)

s3 - Wheelclair (the friendship of Mike and Lucas was highlighted more, we saw why Dustin considered these 2 to be the best friends of the group back in s1)

s4 - Henler (Dustin and Mike against the world *ahem* high school, adamant Hellfire bros, clearly hang out together the most during school hours)
