Ma Mingren medicinal herbal plaster in China
China's Qinling Mountains, which straddle the central and western parts of China, are the watershed between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, and the dividing line between the warm and humid climate in the Pacific Ocean and the dry and cold climate in Siberia. Taibai Mountain, the main peak of Qinling Mountains, is extremely rich in Chinese herbal medicine resources. Apart from the important bulk medicinal materials such as Angelica sinensis and Eucommia ulmoides Oliv., "Taibai Qiyao" named after "Qi" can be described as a major feature of Taibai Mountain's medicinal resources and a precious Chinese national cultural heritage.
As early as 1953, the United States purified "taoerqi" (one of the Taibai Qiyao) into drugs for anti-cancer and included them in the United States Pharmacopoeia. Now, more than 6 kinds of "Taibai Qiyao" have been included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. "Taibai Qiyao" have unique functions and are considered to be the unique and typical representative of Taibai herbs.
The unique region and magical herbal medicine have created the inheritance history of Ma Mingren medicinal herbal plaster for more than a century.
The medicinal plaster making of Ma's family began with Mr. Ma Liuyi (he was a Chinese medicine doctor in Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty in China). However, since Ma Jinfu (the son of Mr. Ma Liuyi), the Ma family migrated from the central provinces of China to live under Taibai Mountain in Qinling Mountains of Shaanxi Province.
Mr. Ma Jinfu and his son, Mr. Ma Mingren, on the basis of inheriting family medical knowledge and skills, combined with the local magic Taibai Qiyao herbs, have greatly improved and promoted the family's plaster making skills and therapeutic effects. Specifically, in the selection and compatibility of raw materials, Ma's family added the local magic Taibai Qiyao, and at the same time, in the making process, Ma's family created the method of "soaking in snow and melting in pills". These changes have improved the curative effect of Ma's family plasters as a whole, which continues to this day.
Ma Mingren medicinal herbal Plaster (named after Mr. Ma Mingren because of his special contribution) mainly includes many rigorous processes such as material selection, soaking, refining, sublimation, refining, administration of pills, detoxification, dryness elimination, unsealing and spreading. Wild Chinese herbal medicines in Taibai Mountain alpine region are selected, supplemented by other precious medicinal materials, which are processed by snow immersion to remove poison and retain effect, stirred with branches of five kinds of trees to improve the drug strength, and melted with pills on fire to promote the efficacy, soaking in pits to remove poison and dryness, opening and spreading at auspicious time, etc., so as to finally meet the standard for top-grade ointment of Ma's family.
In 2014, Ma Mingren ancient herbal plaster making skill was assessed by the Chinese government as a representative project of China's national intangible cultural heritage, which is also the official recognition of its quality and skill.
