Dem Bones Tho II Junhyung & Hyuna
With his legs crossed Junhyung set inside the hollow of tree branches that sunk deep into the Earth, roots delving far into the ground sucking up essential nutrients for their survival. It was a sunnier day than it had been recently, though not warm, a chill of cold air every few minutes reminded him that spring was still far enough away, the icy wind settling into the air pockets of the light jacket he wore. He would have probably packed up by now, cursing the cold, but he however was too interested in what he had in his hands to mind the numbness. A piece of bone, well rather the tibia of a Native American long past. He was an old friend, the son of a chieftain, who he spent many nights frolicking under the moonlit night to the beat of drums and wailing chants.
He had always had a fascination in whittling, starting with birch wood and moving onto sturdier, more delicate pieces of memorabilia. Junhyung could still remember the first bone he had carved into a simple pendant. It had been for his mom, in the shape of Bast, the goddess in Egypt depicted as a cat. He worked so hard to stain the white bones black with blackberries, however; it came out more purple than he had expected, but she had loved it anyways. Now today, he would be paying homage to his friend Ahote, in the shape of an arrow, since it was his friend that had taught him the ways of the longbow. Brushing the brittle flecks of shards off his jeans, he pulled back with a wince, a rather long sliver stuck into his ring finger.
Bones could be extremely delicate but also sharper than any knife. Pulling the shard out, he wiped the oozing finger on his thigh, squeezing it till a bubble of bright red blood elevated, surface tension keeping it perfectly intact on the pad of his fingers without bursting, platelets already beginning to coagulate the open wound to not lose the vital substance. Junhyung didn’t know that an onlooker, either lost or curious had been approaching to watch the scenario. Well that wasn’t until he heard the crunch of grass and his eyes glanced up to come face to face with the figure of a female, staring down at him from merely a few feet away.
