The Hunter or the Hunted?
Thunder rumbles over the city, a low warning of the upcoming storm. People hurry through the streets to return home or to the numerous restaurants and bars before the torrent of rain from darkening skies. Surely, the storm will hit by the time night falls. It’s rather unfortunate. It will make work much more difficult with roads slick with water and what’s worse is the brilliant lights won’t be of any help. Not outside city limits where warehouses stand. There’s not much Harmony can do to change that. This is an opportunity that she can’t miss.
Someone tipped off the police department. This could be their only chance to capture one of the most notorious criminals who terrorized the city in so long. The body count he left behind is alarmingly high. The police, investigators, and even bounty hunters agonized over finding him before he claimed another life. Unfortunately, they were not successful. Evidence of some of the worst cases was handled by Officier Harmony Halcyon. To this day, the condition of the remains of this man’s victims haunts her to this day. The last case, the disappearance, and murder of a young man kept her wide awake for days. He wasn’t that much older than her. A graduate student who had so much going for him. How his body was left behind is She couldn’t forgive herself for not responding on time. She demanded to handle the case once the department received the tip of his whereabouts. After seeing the lives destroyed, the innocence stolen in a blink of an eye with hope and promises long gone once a victim took their last breath, this became personal to Officier Halcyon. The orders were simple and clear: Search the warehouses until he’s found and capture him alive.
She can’t promise in keeping with the last order, not that she told her superiors about that. It all depends on the outcome of finding him.
Who is this criminal? Not many people know his true name, but he went by an alias that strikes fear in the hearts of even the toughest people. He’s called the Little Killer and to this day, he has avoided being caught by the law. Perhaps tonight is when his luck runs out. No one can get away forever and Harmony refuses to believe that the Little Killer will be a special case like the Zodiac Killer or the Black Dahlia murderer.
Rain trickles over the dark roads with lone street lamps far between each other lighting the way. The patrol unit drives to the warehouses. Harmony turns it off with the turn of her key and leaves the car. Back up is stationed nearby in case she is in trouble. Knowing the Little Killer’s capabilities, she doesn’t want to risk other officers who may be another target if they aren’t careful. Harmony slowly creeps to one of the buildings. She gets her handgun ready with her back pressed against the warehouse’s siding. Harmony sidesteps along the wall, listening for any sound, any movement. She has a feeling that he may not be far. He could be watching from the shadows, waiting for her to take the wrong step.
