“So, remind me what I’m eating again, Starshine?” Mila probed the mystery meat that was stacked on the plate. She was so focused on the food that when the shrimp like beasts on the plate next to her screeched, Mila nearly jumped out of her seat.
It was obvious that Mila hasn’t traveled much before; most times she’d be hiding away to keep the authorities from catching her. Deep down, she was glad to be able to travel with a King’s guard… It’s just easier to get away with things!
This, however, was one rare instance that she couldn’t play off, and Lena knew this. Mila eyed her companion, narrowing her gaze as she waited for Lena to seize her laughter.
After a moment or two, Mila lowered herself to sit back down on the Atlantian cushion and Lena managed to calm her giggle fit.
“Oh, Mila… You’re a gem,” the brunette finally managed once she had enough oxygen to form a sentence, “Don’t forget to eat the head. That’s where all the nutrients are!” Mila grew pale as she watched Lena pull one of the multi-eyed shrimps from off the plate to rip off the creature’s head to devour the body first before tossing the head in her mouth.
Mila had to hold her stomach to keep from vomiting.
Lena only shook her head, her smile still plain on her face as she pushed the plate of mystery meat closer to her pale friend. “Here then, try this. It tastes like beef liver, and it’s cooked.”
Quietly, the blonde looked back at the plate the Atlantian chef set before her. The meat still had steam rolling off it as she poked the skewer through. It felt tender, seeing as it sunk in effortlessly.
After counting to three, Mila fed herself; slowly coming to the realization that it did taste like beef liver. She fed herself one after another, finally realizing how hungry she actually was.
“What is this dish made of, Starshine?” Mila asked absentmindedly, she stopped eating when she heard the smallest of chuckles come from her friend, “Oh God… What is it?”
Lena only shook her head as she dug into some of the purple lobster, “I think the translation is The Great Flood Beast. It’s the—“
Mila chucked a noodle to stop Lena from speaking, “Nope. No, no, no… Nevermind. Don’t tell me. I rather not know… I’ll just relish in the fact that I can eat something in the Lost City.”
The comment made Lena laugh again, but this time she was joined by her friend. Both girls soon fell into small talk with the locals as they dined alongside them.
