Here a Creak, There a Shriek! is officially out today! 👻 🎃 Thanks to @littletigerbooks @tigertales_books for the opportunity to illustrate this wonderful Halloween picture book. Even though Halloween is still some months away it’s my favourite time of year so illustrating this book was so fun!

It’s an inspired rhyme on Old MacDonald had a farm written by the brilliant @kellyconroybooks Special thanks to @moni_abere for the direction and help shape this book into what it is. Really thrilled on how it all turned out ! 💚

Here are some of the first sample pieces I did to help explore the visual style for the book and to start getting a sense of the direction. I will share some of the initial thumbnails and colour thumbnails next!

Some rough thumbnails and colour thumbnails for Here a Creak, There a Shriek! For the roughs thumbnails it was all about finding the best composition that felt right for the text and rhythm of the book. Once the thumbs were locked I moved into colour. We decided going with tonal palettes with heavy blacks and an accent colour for the highlights. From there it was using colours to help the flow of the story and building towards using red for the climax. I will share some of the final interior spreads next!
