I never finished Red Carpet Diaries so I'm replaying through book 1 now to see if this is true. Will post with updates... whenever I can get enough keys for that chapter.

thanks!! when i get done playing i usually go to youtube to see others reactions and i was shocked by how different it was. victoria still got mad, but it wasn’t as bad. and matt was nicer about it too. i also picked to say it wasn’t me if that makes a difference in the outcome???

How do you know the anti ace and anti aro sentiment will pass? They'll get older. And they'll join various queer organizations. And they'll gain positions of power in those that allow them to be aphobic in their policies. It's only on tumblr now, but what the hell is stopping it from spreading?

I don’t know it will pass, but if it follows the patterns of all of the other waves of anti-X hate I have seen, it will rise, it will crest, it will fall.

When I say ‘this is recycled biantagonism and transantagonism’, I’m not being metaphorical. I’m saying it because at the height of the AIDS crisis, Time fucking magazine ran an article saying that bi men were literally to blame for spreading AIDS to the straight population, because bi men were the fucking worst. I’m saying it because I literally got punched by a lesbian when I was younger for not ‘disclosing’ that I was bi when she started hitting on me, like being bisexual was a fucking disease. I’m saying it because for all of what bi people face in the LGBTQ community today, it’s a lot better than what it was, and all of the people who were shits to me when I was coming up in the community are now adults, with positions of power in the community.

And... this kind of happens every time another group in the queer/LGBTQ community rises up and says ‘please recognize us and please stop treating us like garbage.’ There’s pushback, there’s this kind of ‘oh no, we couldn’t, you don’t belong, you don’t’ -- and then it passes, and it often passes to the point that the next generation genuinely doesn’t believe that it happened. Doesn’t understand that our community has gone through these sorts of spasms a few times, and goes through them over and over again, and will go through them in the future. 

On a personal, this group of people level... 

It has been my experience that a lot of young LGBTQ/queer people go through an angry, bitter, ‘now I’m the bully’ stage in their coming out. They find themselves in a position to push out others and be cruel to others as others were cruel to them, and so they do. The bullied turn into bullies. 

But that passes for most of us. We grow out of it and are generally horrified by the way we behaved once we come out the other side. And those who don’t grow out of it, and are terrible, nasty people for the rest of their lives, tend not to end up in positions of power and leadership, because they’re really terrible and mean-spirited people to be around, and no one can stand being around them, let alone working with them on a consistent basis. (There are always exceptions, but this is generally so.)

I genuinely hope for their sakes that they do grow out of this hateful, bitter stage, where most of them have been influenced by the TERFs who are using this platform to push back on queer, to push ace/aro folks toward the fringes of the community, etc, and become healthier and less hateful. For their sake. It’s not healthy to live that way.

But... I’m not worried about our community as a whole.

All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. it will pass now as it passed before. I’m pretty certain.

I hope that’s reassuring.
