my ONE "human au" designs for the 3rd batch

for the descriptive text: Abstracty, Atom, and Texty are basically the same. the text for atom: They actually can't see atom (neither can we), they just hear a small voice coming from the ground

for like, animation reasons, the indicator to where atom is for us is the little speaking lines popping up. this is before he starts holding the grass

Little analysis of the waiting room + some headcanons

People who have seen room variants/"others" are Texty, Airy for his second death, Bryce, and (likely) Charlotte. Along with some background characters.

While those who had the blank room were Airy on his first death, Liam, Julien, and eventually Bryce.

In the miscellaneous section for having something different, we have Charlotte reaching for someone(/thing?) and that one gem guy who yells "Jasmine".

Texty's vision is one of those typical "cute animal does thing" videos with puppies playing and sees the chair as a froggy chair. Both things come from the more "wholesome" side internet culture that has cute videos and memes.

Airy initially sees the blank room after his first death, but sees the Plane after his second. We have very limited knowledge of what how his original life went but we do know that he became very attached to the competitors and the Plane on his second. Even though he was never personally on The Plane, it was an area that he was attached to.

Bryce originally sees his childhood suburbs and his sister. We know he and Stella were close and he clearly cared a lot for her. Its possible that the suburbs would carry similar feelings since that's where they grew up together.

However, he says in episode 15 that he doesn't see the suburbs (or presumably Stella) anymore. This happens immediately after he is reimpassioned on his and Liam's goal.

So, headcanon time:

The waiting room's appearance is based on comfort/want, often using nostalgia.

Most of the time, a person will see their own personalized waiting room and specific person(s) that are connected to them.

However, its also possible for someone to only have one of those things, or even in some cases, have nothing like Liam and Julien.

This still typically ends up with the person moving on because most of the time they will not be alone in the Waiting Place and will follow the stampede like in episode 14.

Room variants are based off real places that a person has attachment to, regardless of them ever actually being there. Since they're based off want, not what you presently have, your room will not be a place you were living at the time of death.

Some common places you might see are childhood homes or neighborhoods, a vacation spot from years ago that you loved, or a place you always wanted to visit based off what you knew.

They help the newly deceased feel calmer since its a place of comfort, which can help them with moving on.

The "ghosts" that people see are typically deceased loved ones/people they were close to who died. They are not actually those people, just like their view is not of the real location from their life. These things normally cause the deceased to feel like they need to "go" and leave off into the fog.

A person sees the default room when they have a particular motivator to "continue on" and keep living. The Universe Modulator provides a second chance if they can manage to make their way back to wherever they're trying to go.

One example would be Bryce who sees the default room in "A Toast" right after he tries to encourage Liam that they should keep going.

This can also happen to people who do have people that they care for but said people aren't dead.

For example, (fully a headcanon) Liam pre-plane had friends and family that he cared about. However, since none of them were dead, they did not show up in the Waiting Room.

A lot less commonly, a person sees nothing because they have no person or place that they are attached to or long for at all.

Potentially this could include Airy's original death but we know very little of him before so its hard to say.

He sees the Plane on his second death which makes sense in a way because it is an area he has developed a connection to but was never able to actually go down to it. In a way it presents escapism but he was never able to fully achieve it in life.

I think that Bryce's case is the most interesting because he sees both a personalized variant and the default.

While he directly states he's trying to put more effort into his life after his first time on the Plane, he still initially sees a place and person that make him want to "go". He's still struggling with his life, especially with the newly added Plane trauma. Part of him just wants to go back to when things were "simpler" and he had his sister.

However, after going to Stone's world, he finds himself a lot more hopeful that their mission to free the others will succeed. His focus on the future and on living to achieve a goal (decipher the notes and save the contestants) pulls him out of his longing for before and makes him focused on the here and now. This causes him to see the default state of the room and severs the vision of "Stella" encouraging him to move on with her.

Anyways those are (some) of my thoughts I find the Waiting Room really interesting :]
