Very interesting how Satou flip-flops back and forth between discussing 'Hikaru' like a thing, a force of nature, yet one with a will and desires of its own.

Her initial plan is based around coercion, getting 'Hikaru' to come willingly. Yet she denies the possibility of a plan to hurt his loved ones, taking issue with the premise that he'd even have loved ones, that he can love or care for others, that he'd feel pain when he sees them hurt. To Satou, 'Hikaru' is a beast, a thing, a tool. He has a sense of self, but he's not a "real person" who values human life the way we do.

Later, she's surprised when Tanaka suggests 'Hikaru' has a will of his own. This seems odd given that her plan relied on influencing his will, but there's a crucial difference here. Her plan can't work because 'Hikaru' doesn't just have a will of his own, but he cares for people. He cares for Yoshiki, he loves Yoshiki, more than anyone else in the world. 'Hikaru' is gonna prioritize his wish over anyone else's. Satou never considered that 'Hikaru' could love.
