“Fuck,” he grumbled, stumbling as he closed the front door with his foot, “Baby, where are you?”

“Over here,” I called from the living room, stretching on the couch. He shuffled into the low-lit room, head heavy.

“Fuck,” he cursed again, dropping to the couch. His head collapsed into my lap as he took in a deep sigh.

“You okay?” I chuckled, dragging a hand through his sweaty curls.

“I’m not fucking going back there,” he muttered, coughing weakly, “They’re trying to kill me.”

“Are they?” I traced along his stubbled jaw, his skin dewey from exhaustion, “I thought you were just exercising.”

“I thought so too,” he spat, arm hanging limp off the couch, “Out of nowhere, I’m flipping tires, swinging from fucking ropes,” he pointed to the ceiling, “Baby, you wouldn’t believe it. I was doing backflips.”

“Backflips?” I dropped my hand to his chest, running my knuckles along his sternum.

“Truly,” he nodded, lifting his head to look at me seriously, then wincing, “Fuck, everything hurts.” His head fell back against my legs, his forehead creased with discomfort. His arm swung out, slapping the coffee table to find his pack of cigarettes.

“Still quitting?” I held back a smile as he flipped me off, pulling a cigarette from the pack swiftly.

“Tomorrow,” he grumbled out of the side of his mouth, sighing as he searched his pockets for a lighter. He spotted one on the far end of the coffee table, reaching a hand out limply, “Darling?”

“Didn’t you just give me the finger?” I said, looking down at his pouting mouth, the unlit cigarette hanging off his lip.

“Please,” he whispered, eyes cutting into mine. I swallowed, listening to his heavy breaths struggling to keep up with his racing heart. His hand caught the inside of my wrist, his thumb pressing into the tendons, “Please, sweetheart.”

I bit back a smile, turning my cheek towards him. He smiled, plucking the cigarette from his mouth. He lifted his lips to my skin with a grunt, falling back into my lap quickly and clutching at his torso, face creased with pain.

“Poor thing,” I cooed, and stood, pushing him off my lap. He grumbled as he pulled his t-shirt over his head, leaning into the back of the couch, his head rolling backwards. He breathed slowly, stomach flexing around his inhales. I grabbed the lighter, tossing it at his chest.

“Ow,” he whimpered, scrabbling for the lighter sliding down his torso. The cigarette was back in his mouth, his hands shakily trying to ignite the lighter. “Fuck,” he muttered, eyes closed tightly, “Can you do it, baby?”

“That bad, is it?” I sat beside him, holding a hand out. He set the lighter in my palm, fingers curling around the back of my hand.

“Yes,” he stated, eyes darting over my face. My chest tightened at the sight of his darkened irises, and I kissed his cheek to ease my erratic heartbeat. I grabbed the cigarette from his lips, placing it in my own mouth and lighting it. I took an easy drag, watching him lick his lips and twitch as he waited.

“You haven’t smoked all day?” I exhaled, his eyes closing as the smoke drifted over his chest.

“Not since last night,” he said quietly, reaching out a tentative hand.

“Really?” I nodded, taking another drag, “So proud of you, baby.”

“Right,” his hand ghosted over mine, impatiently quivering, “So, please?”

“You want something?” I asked, letting the cigarette burn between my lips.

“I-“ he started, mouth forming shapes but no sounds. His hand returned to his mouth, rubbing at his chin roughly. I laughed, putting the cigarette in his begging mouth. He inhaled sharply, cheeks hollowing, smoke spilling from his nose between breaths. His head lulled against the couch, eyes closed and features slack.

“Sorry I was teasing,” I purred, my thumb drawing circles into his bare chest.

“I’ll forgive you,” he replied, lungs full of smoke, “Later.”

“Later?” I laughed, kissing at his shoulder.

“Think I should stay mad at you for a bit longer,” he opened an eye, leaning forward to stub out the cigarette. He watched me closely, his hand drifting over my knee.

“Sure,” I dropped a kiss to his neck, earning a heavy shudder, “Let’s take a bath first, then.”

“Yes, please,” he smiled, mouth at my temple. I stood, pulling him with me. He groaned, falling back to the couch.

“Just,” he coughed, “Give me a second to stand up, here.”
