If you go to one of our great lakes, specifically if you go to the UP, bring a little bag to collect a few rocks. Not too many. but take a couple of nice, flat rocks home. we have lots.

I realize this is you being friendly and generous but after living in both Hawai’i and near several petrified forests and inland volcanoes, it has been culturally ingrained INTO MY BONES to never take rocks from somewhere. 

For people who did not grow up with western rock ettiquite: It’s extremely rude and possibly illegal to take rocks from places.  If you’re visiting a state or national park it’s illegal and contributes to enviormental degradation. It should also be noted that disturbing river rocks for things like rock-stacking disturbs riparian ecosystems to a terrible degree when hundreds of people do it, so please don’t.

All of North America and Hawai’i is former indegenous people’s land, but in the west in particular the rocks themselves are sacred objects, particularly lava. Don’t take them, don’t move them and if you’re not sure don’t even touch some of them, esp the large ones that have been moved and/or named.  Petrified Wood is also something you should leave in place but I’m unsure if there are religious connections to it.

1. Absolute favorite musical that you love unconditionally and why you love that musical? - I honestly don’t know if I have a favorite? There are musicals I like a lot; I like Les Mis because i find the musical reprises powerful (like the way ‘lovely ladies’ is reintroduced as ‘turning’); I like Newsies (the movie) because it was one of the first musicals I watched (repeatedly) as a kid and it’s a fun story and I know all the words and the stage version changed the lyrics just enough to be incredibly confusing to me

2. If you could make up your own holiday, what season would it be in and what would it be about? - Definitely in the winter and honestly it might just be the secular version of Christmas. maybe with less inherent mysticism. I like the idea of a holiday that’s all about ‘times are tough and it’s hard but we’re doing our best and surviving and trying to make things better for everyone else around us’. though if that’s the theme then it could definitely work as a desert summer holiday too.

3. Fake teeth? - I have one! it looks funny on x-rays! As i remember I had a cavity when I was real young so my pediatric dentist put a silver crown on it because idk thats supposed to do something I guess? and then when I graduated to real dentist office, he did an x-ray and was like uh yeah that tooth is all rotted we’re gonna just. give you a new one. I don’t actually remember which one it is tho because it looks the same as my other teeth

4. A favorite movie that technically is really fucking terrible but you love it anyway and why you like it? - oh no is that Newsies? its not TOO terrible but it’s not... technically... great, either. and for all the reasons listed above - the songs are catchy, the characters are fun, theres some great lines...

5. Do you blow on the cartridge? - I mean depends on the cartridge. I’m not blowing on no ink cartridge when I reload it, but if I’ll pulling that N64 out again you better I’m blowing on those cartridges

6. First movie you ever rented? - way too long ago to remember. with my own money? probably something stupid from redbox. 

7. Worst injury you’ve ever had? - probably the time some kid at my elementary school daycare threw an entire treebranch at my face. I don’t remember if I even went to the hospital but I do remember my forehead swelling up and staying home from school. I don’t get injured very often, knock on wood

8. If you could be any alien from any sci-fi property ever, which would you be and why? - the first thing that came to mind was literally the crystalline entity from Star Trek, and now I’m wondering if Steven Universe counts as a scifi because a formless crystal core with a hardlight projection sounds nice. I love the concept of not having to deal with fleshbody

9. Feet or hands? - technically hands are more useful but I really like my feet? Holds me (up). at the same time I pretty much never want to see other peoples’ feet

10. If you could instantly know how to do a martial art, ala the matrix, which would it be and why? - something with a weapon, I kinda hate the idea of hitting people or things with my bare hands. I think kendo is considered a martial art.........is archery considered a martial art?? if yes then that one (otherwise, something that would let me use like a bo staff or something)

i feel the same about lace knitting. like one mistake that you don’t catch right away means you have to unravel hours worth of work. making stuff is hard.

YEAH!! I’ve been working on my needle skills (i.e. sewing, knitting, etc.) and I’m just a mess. Like my knitting is passable because i’m doing the most BASIC knit but you can tell it’s off. That’s probably the only thing i’m fine with. It’s just the SEWING part that makes me frustrated, but i’m too stubborn to stop. And now i realise that i need some sort of bendy wire to thread an elastic through the fabric since none of my needles are long and thin enough.
