HiddenRadio Bluetooth Speaker
If there is one thing we've always wanted from our average salt shaker, it's that it do a better job at amplifying music seamlessly via bluetooth (and have an am/fm radio). Well, that's what Industrial Designers John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen and Vitor Santa Maria have been working on with HiddenRadio for the past four years (minus the salt), and now it's finally on Kickstarter.
There's no network to join or AirPlay issues, it just shows up as an option for your phone or device and off you go, whether you're listening to music, gaming, watching a movie or using it as a speaker phone. It also comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 30 hours. There are other bluetooth speakers out there, but HiddenRadio is so bloody elegant - you twist the top and it spirals up away from the base, increasing the volume/space inside the body, which increases the sound volume up to 80dB (thanks science).
As all good things come to those that wait (not true), the HiddenRadio isn't immediately available. It launched on Kickstarter recently, and has already doubled the required pledges for funding at over $250,000 and they still have 40 days to go. If you are a founding pledger, you will receive your HiddenRadio in early 2012 for $119 including worldwide shipping via Kickstarter (retail price after launch is over $175 plus shipping). So you have a whole 40 days to convince yourself that your current portable speakers have always kind of sucked - they probably have buttons and don't even look like salt shakers.
