Balls and Festivals in Castle Town

The court and Hylian Royal Family often hold balls at which political matters are discussed in a casual setting. Behind this dinner-and-dance facade, however, the nobility are frantically playing the Great Game, shuffling to gain favor and power. Festivals, on the other hand, are for the common people. There are lanterns, dancers, musicians, and free food provided by the court.

Mother-and-Child Rocks

The last remains of the Zora deities, the rocks representing the eternal spirits of the Mother and Child. The Mother is the chief deity, who made the Child, a lesser deity whose line ends with the Zoras. The Zora Royal Family is considered closest to the line of gods, and it is thought that because of this the Royal Family's spirits can linger for some time after death. Women are considered closer to the Mother and thus favored when choosing a new ruler.

Elite Hylian Guard

An exclusive organization of knights. Their role is to defend the Royal Family at all costs, including their lives. It was once made up of mostly Sheikah and called the Hyrulian Guard until the Sheikah were relocated to the Hidden Village. The Elite Hylian Guard was completely wiped out when Zant invaded Hyrule Castle.

Castle Town Guard

The bulk of the Hylian military. They patrol the streets, keep order, and offer their services to the common people. Most are not knights, and thus they are looked down upon and considered cowardly. This is a fairly accurate assessment.

Role of Knights

Knights are swordsmen who have proven themselves courageous in battle. They are given the title of "sir" and usually serve upper positions in the Castle Town Guard. Only a knight may join the Elite Hylian Guard. Knights are very respected and are usually given discounts at stores in Castle Town. Knights may join the household of a lord or lady and serve them as their personal guard.

Goron Patriarchy

The ruling class of Gorons. Contains four elders and a single patriarch. The elders, elected from a larger qualifying group, are the oldest and wisest of the tribe and hold power for life. The patriarch must be the strongest member of the tribe. A new patriarch comes to power when the old is defeated in a contest of strength. The patriarchy holds substantial power over Gorons and controls Death Mountain and all mines.

Zora Royal Family

The family which rules over the Zoras of Hyrule. Lives in the Zora Castle above the Throne Room. The eldest daughter of the previous ruler is the crown princess and will become the next matriarch. If the crown princess is killed or there are no daughters, the eldest son will take power, though with substantially less influence over the Zoras. The Zora Royal Family holds near-absolute power over Zoras, and controls all Hyrulian waterways.
