Ginny stopped her tracks when a very expensive looking SUV pulled up in their driveway.

"Fuck," Harry muttered under his breath.

A small woman with dark red hair hopped out of the passenger's side and started toward them. Ginny swore she was the most elegant woman she’d ever seen. Her hair was straight, not a flyaway or piece of frizz to be seen. Her dress was obviously a designer brand that Ginny wouldn’t dream of touching in her wildest dreams. 

“Harry!” she called, as if they both weren’t staring at her like she was Mother Teresa come back to life. When she reached them, she threw her arms around Harry and hugged him tightly. 

“Mum, you’re supposed to be in Haiti,” he muttered through grit teeth. “Helping hungry children.”

Harry’s father was getting out of the car now, and Ginny nearly let her chin fall to the ground. If Harry was handsome, James Potter was flat out sexy. He had the same messy hair as his son, with the same nice jawline. He was lean and fit. Ginny could see the muscles in his arm flex as he reached up to run his fingers through his hair. As he watched his wife and son, a smile lit up his face. Yes, if Ginny were into older men, James Potter would be exactly the kind of man she’d go for.

“Well, my only son is engaged!” Lily exclaimed, pulling away from him. “I had to come back for that. Besides, Remus can take care of the business right now. Why didn’t you tell me you were engaged?” She didn’t pause to give him time to answer. “When Molly called me, I was so shocked. Well, I told your Da, and we were on our way back to England that night.”

“I tried to calm her down, but she was on a mission,” James said as he slipped in between Harry and Lily, embracing his son tightly.

this is in response to what an anon sent you about mirrorball being a hinny/ginny song bc ive been thinking about this since the song came out. fyc: i think "when they called off the circus/burned the disco down" to the end of the song is post-war ginny to harry trying to get him through his grief so the circus would be voldy + co.; specifically "im still on that tightrope" being a callback to hbp golden days and how she's "still a believer" ("i never gave up on you"). btw love ur account :))

Hi, I’m so sorry for the wait, I didn’t get any notification I got this ask!

(actually I haven’t gotten any notifications from asks in a long time and I just saw there are actually a lot, I’m really sorry for everyone that I haven’t answered, I really didn’t know!)

You have probably already gotten it by now, but for anyone that might not: you can read the first 2 chapters of COI on Riveted Lit’s website if you create an account and login to the website. This is actually part of a project of theirs to release many free samples and stories from now until Christmas so there are many other free books as well as this one!

What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)

I have about 8000 words of a fic ill never finish, but here’s a scene I still kind-of like. Lily and james both work at a newspaper and she’s his editor. The night before they had a fight about a story.

James barged through her office door without knocking. “Have you been through my desk?” he demanded, sourly.

“Yes.” Lily replied, surrounded by the contents of said desk.

He stormed up to her and grabbed a handful of papers that also contained her shopping list and a sandwich receipt. If he was aware of this, he didn’t show it. “I didn’t say you could do that.”

“We need to talk about last night.”

If he had been in a good mood with her he would have said kinky. Instead: “We do not. You need to mind your own business.”

That hurt. “Sit down.”

He set his jaw. “If you’re going to fire me I’d rather not.”

“Fine. Stand.”

James’ gawked. “You’re firing me?”

“I literally just asked you to sit down.”

“I- I can’t fucking believe this- after everything-“

“Would you sit.” She snapped, voice like a knife.

He sat. “If you fire me I’m going to be so fucking peeved.”

“You are the only one whose talking about firing. I’m here to talk about the story.”

James leant back in his seat. “Actually it seems like any information you need you can get from raiding my desk.”

She held up a piece of craft paper with the word, CARDIFF?? written on it in capital letters. “Your notes are illegible. I have no idea what any of this means.”

“The father took a train to Cardiff a week before he died and I wanted to know why.”

At this point it shouldn’t surprise her how he knows this but it does anyway. “Why did he?”

“His sister moved house and wanted help.”

“Oh.” This too is surprising. James, actually trying with a story instead of writing it while smoking on her couch. He was looking out her window, at the ceiling, the door, anywhere but at her. The silence went on forever and Lily was could feel it growing, expanding in the room.

“I’m sorry for last night. Dismissing you. I didn’t know what to say and I panicked. I know you won’t – shouldn’t – stop looking into this.” James’ head snapped up, looking at her. Still- silence. Lily’s shoulders tensed.

“Forgive me.” She said. Another minute.

“Well, obviously.” James sighed, slouching back into his seat. Her shoulders unknotted themselves. “Sorry for being a prick.”

Lily nodded. “Forget it. It’s done.”

“Raiding my desk is a bit much though.”

Lily rolled her eyes. “How many times have you gone through my desk?”

“Somehow it’s different when you do it. More… authoritarian.” James mused, waving his hand. Lily smiled.

“As much as you love hearing yourself talk shit, we need to talk about last night.”

“Did we not already do that?”

“No,” Lily folded her hands together on the desk, “That was act one.”

“Do excuse me, wasn’t aware we were performing the world’s most boring play.”

“Yeah well catch up, because this is the part where we team up and fight crime and probably get incarcerated.” She tried for joking, despite having sat in her office this morning thinking about whether they gave you special shoes in prison like at bowling alleys for approximately ten minutes.

What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)

In terms of like original stuff? i mean i have one thing that I think would also work as a long-form tv series, and the marauders stuff would also work best that way i think. Like sort of ‘the crown’-esque, with time jumps and budget so large it could feasibly explore space
