This might be weird to ask, but what are Beastiary's pronouns? My mind started saying "she" without a permission, but I don't want to use the wrong ones :´D Beautiful creature, all in all. I kinda want to draw fan art but I doubt I could get the details right u.u

i think of bea as they/it usually. kind of an enigma or more of an abstract force of nature than anything else. thank you so much!

Aloin itse vasta katsomaan Pokémon: Matkat matalilla odotuksilla ja se on yllättäen ollutkin oikein mukavaa katsottavaa ^^ Ei mitään hurjan raisua menoa tai roiseja juttuja niinkuin ekassa kaudessa, mutta rentoa meininkiä hyvä mieli tulee itelle kun kattelee.

Itse asiassa katoin SuMon ja nyt Matkat-sarjaa (just eilen sain Pimein päivä -jaksot katsottua)! Harkitsin kyllä SuMoa kattoessa että pitäiskö postata tänne jotain mutta lopulta päädyin vain tallentamaan pari screenshotia omaan meemikansiooni :D

As it is with watermarks, signatures and other protective measures you can schlap on your art, it always comes at the cost of the clarity, and maybe even quality of your original piece. One has to make up their mind about how much they are willing to compromise their work in order to protect it. Me, someone who hasn’t had many problems with my stuff ending up places - other than your typical bots snatching your stuff for generated storefronts, i try to maintain the clarity of my pieces over enforcing the more extensive measures to make sure my art isn’t distributed without my consent. This might change in the future. As we grow as artists we need to take different measures to keep our property safe and moderated as we meet with new audiences.

Designing a logo, signature

- I recommend you make your signature or logo Monochrome, At most dual-chrome. Too many colours don’t make for a very versatile logo. These many colours can clash with the pallette of the individual piece.

- Simple, clear and easy to read.

- No complex patterns or shapes, think of your signature as an icon or a logo for a company or a brand.

- Should be in lieu stylistically with the typical aesthetic you dabble in.

Basic placement of the watermark/signature

Smack-dab centre of everything

What I normally see, in regards to watermarks, is a very central placement on the given piece. This gives anyone wanting to crop the image a very hard time sectioning off pieces of the art to use without cutting into the watermark. It’s pretty effective for sure. The downside is that a large watermark like that typically compromises the readability and composition of an image. I could recommend it as teaser-thumbnails for potential patreon-rewards, or as previews of commissions ( or process images for your client of a commission yet to be paid ). 

The tagline

More elegantly, you can put your signature somewhere near the focal point. This only works if your signature is versatile enough to blend with the composition somehow. Text or very small, simple logos should do the trick. By placing your signature or watermark near the focal point of your piece, you’re able to ensure that anyone trying to crop the image will have to make a pretty aesthetically unappealing cut to crop out your signature or risk losing the important parts of your illustration. The downside to this one is that a watermark or signature in itself isn’t diegetic ( part of the narrative in a given scene, in this case, your illustration ) - unless your illustration is of a more graphic nature ( magazine-cover. Text-art. Etc ). Meaning that if you are drawing a story-heavy scene or an atmospheric piece of abstract art, a signature like this can break with the immersion.

Classic simple signature If you’re more inclined to simply having your signature there for the sake of ..well. having it there, assuming or not worrying about someone cropping the image and redistributing it without your tag on it, you can stick the signature in the corner of the piece. I tend to do this on a lot of my smaller pieces cause I’m a lazy bum who can’t always be arsed.

The Motif of a watermark

Working off of the placements I just presented, here are a few more ways to incorporate a watermark or signature into your work. some more or less brazen. Valuing either protection or clarity. 

Shutterstock's text

I saw this on a Shutterstock image somewhere, and i kinda liked it as a watermark. It’s either just basic text with the name of the owner of the image, sometimes accompanied by little lines running alone the image either vertically + horizontally or diagonally. Supposedly to prevent someone from cropping a significant bit of the image without getting a bit of the watermark too. 

Full logo Just like with the preview with the logo at the very centre of the composition, this kind of watermark is very effective at keeping croppings from leaving out your signature. But it obscures the rest of the image pretty badly. As previously mentioned, I’d only keep this for art that is supposed to “tease” its full resolution. Or protect unpublished material from the public. 

The stamp

I’ve actually been considering switching to this particular kind of signature. It has a really neat compact look, is easy to read and fits with my style very well.  The strength of a stamp is that the logo frames itself in a rather basic shape. Which makes it pretty self-contained and is easy for the eye to read. It also fits pretty neatly into any corner or nook with a composition depending on what you need it for. 

Including links

On principle, I think it’s worth injecting your presence into every piece you churn out. But ultimately, not all pieces are going to have the compositional weight to maintain a load of links on it. I think it should come down to whether or not you think it looks passable. For me, I would never cover a sketch in a ton of links unless I knew it was going to a demographic that could generate some sort of revenue or clout. 

 I think - keep your full set of links for your bigger pieces. Then use a simple, elegant and link in your less complex works ( a little tagline in a corner somewhere or something ). For me - I keep the full link-collection to my “big” official illustrations, those that go in my portfolio and those I push to the forefront of my platform to generate attention and interest. Or if I am foraging into a platform where credit can easily get lost ( Tumblr for an example ); ie. anywhere where I feel like it's crucial for people to know exactly where to find me at all times. 

I hope this was useful to an extent. So sorry for the premature upload, I’m old and don’t know how Tumblr works. God help me.

Oh actually I'd love to ask some ab Solaris and Lune... Solaris: 4, 5, 13, 44, 63, 68, 70, 78, 93. I.. guess I'll put Lune's into a separate post.

oooo I don’t have much on Solaris other than he’s angry and mean, so this’ll have some good character building...

4. Do they have any siblings? How many? Are they older or younger?  Which sibling are they the closest with?

He does have a couple siblings!!  His family was pretty small compared to most others, he has two older sisters and one little sister.  The older ones don’t visit very often but they do enjoy some of the privileges that come with being related to the King.  Solaris was pretty close to his younger sister though, so she often visits and gives him advice and help if he needs it.

5. What’s their relationship with their parents like? What about other relatives?

Solaris never really cared much for his parents, and they didn’t care much for him.  It was obvious to them that he wouldn’t get very far in life because of his colour and status, so they became his motivation instead.  Solaris became King just to spite his parents.  He has other relatives but never got to know them very well, nor did he want to meet them.

13. What do they do for fun?

Reading books on History, or fighting practice.  He loves the thrill of winning a fight, even if it’s against a training dummy.  

44. Do they have any scars? If so, what are the stories behind those scars?

Solaris has one very big scar on his thigh/groin from a nearly fatal injury he received in “The Great War” (the same war in which Stella was killed) he got this from an enemy’s axe (it looked like a giant Tabar) that practically made his armor look like tinfoil.  That’s the worst scar he has, there’s lots of smaller, less noticeable ones that he’s gotten from other battles and older fights.

63. What is always guaranteed to make them smile?

not much, the satisfaction of a win will always make him smile, and before The Great War, Stella would always be able to make him smile no matter what.

68. How did their environment growing up affect their personality?

He often tends to ignore or neglect his family because of the way he was treated by his parents, he never really learned how to take care of children or connect with people on a deep level. Solaris was brought up to rely on himself only, and because of that he doesn’t trust anyone.

70. How do they feel about animals? Do they have any pets?

:]  WELL.  He doesn’t have any pets except for a couple creatures that he goes hunting with, but those aren’t really “pets.”  Solaris doesn’t really like animals, but he doesn’t loathe their existence (except for maybe one of them...)

78. Who do they consider to be their best friend?

He used to consider Stella to be his “best friend” until she passed away, now he doesn’t really have anyone who would fit that description.

93. What’s the most iconic line of dialogue they’ve ever said?

ooooof that’s a hard one...

“I’ll release it...release it from its pathetic body.”

OR 

“I’m just trying to bring justice to those who deserve it.“

Those are all very iconic and represent his motives/character really well, they’re all from an old roleplay because I haven’t written much good dialogue on my own for him yet ‘:D

Hi guys! I'm really happy that I founded this blog. The idea is so cool! Heh, I also love the fact that first, one of you tells us that everything else in this story is great except for the line art, and then both of the others claim that the line art is the best thing ever. Well, I agree with Falcon and Cryptor. Echo's line art is great. And now for the guestion: Can you tell more about Jay's nationality, or is it spoilers? Keep up the good work! I can't wait for this to start! ^^

Hello! I have a question about watermarks/signatures. I've had a watermark for some time now, but it never felt like it went well with any art piece and seemed more distracting and messy. I'm trying to come up with a new design but idk how to make it good. Also, if sb reposts (without credits) my work on a different site, would it be good to have my Tumblr address on the mark? What about placement? I worry a signature could be cropped off if it's in the corner. Thank you for your help!

5. What’s their relationship with their parents like? What about other relatives?

Lune has a pretty good relationship with her Father and Aunt, and respects them and their actions.  She’s definitely closer to Solaris than Inlustris is, because she goes traveling with him most of the time and gets taught about becoming the next ruler.  Her Aunt is also very kind to her (although Inlustris has never actually met her so there’s no comparison to make here) and they’d have some fun conversations about space travel and whatnot.  Lune never met any other relatives, but intends on trying to find them when she’s Queen.  (she also had a p good relationship with her mom and misses her a lot)

10. What are some of their talents/skills?

Lune is very skilled at archery, and has excellent eyesight (especially at night), she’s also a very good hunter (with or without weapons) and always able to catch whatever she’s after using experience and quick calculations.

11. If they could make a mark on history, what would they like it to be?

Lune would want to be known as the Queen who stopped all Reptmalian war.  Mostly just following in her father’s footsteps, and finishing the legacy he had started.

12. How old are they? When is their birthday?

Lune is 5 years older than her sister, so 21 when we first meet her (23 in Earth years).  Her birthday is...September 24!

13. What do they do for fun?

She likes messing with her little sister’s mental health I’ll tell ya that.  But in all seriousness, she really likes to spend time relaxing because she rarely ever gets to.  Lune also likes to practice her archery skills and test herself with ridiculous targets.

63. What is always guaranteed to make them smile?

Seeing her sister happy, a successful hunt, seeing her favourite food, getting praise from her father.

71. How are they with children? Do they have any? Do they want any?

Lune should be banned from seeing any children ever.  She doesn’t care much for them and doesn’t have any yet, but in the future, when she has a child, I just hope she won’t see them very often.

85. Do they believe in ghosts?

Not really, since she believes the dead go to live in the stars, imagining one among the living is pretty outlandish to her.
