Tracy is Ted soulmate, is his Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz, his Lillypad and he is her Marshmallow, the person who you grow together.
Robin is the one that got away for Ted. Is that person you will always have buried feelings for, although the intense feeling, things dont work.
Victoria is the almost perfect girl, shes that person in your life you dont have nothing negative to point. Shes almost the one, but she simply isn´t.
To me that is the only rational and relatable way of understading/translating HIMYM show, (after the mess the creators of the show did).
HIMYM toughts about how they portrayed love and couples on the show
So.. i was re-watching the series How i met your Mother, because its the show i relate the most. I have a close group of friends and i understand some situations about friendship they portrayed and some situations very assertive and real.
But today i want to put 7 thoughts about how the show portrayed the love thing, the couples and the bitter sweet ending.
1. Ted is the one in the group who is obsessed with finding the one. the kids and marriage stuff, but he´s the last to achieve it. In one way, i understand, because in real life, people who want the most this stuff sometimes are the last to have it. And the ones who never want or expect to have this kind of thing, achive it first - like Robin and Barney. In real life this happen a lot. So the cliché - when you least expect it happens, its so true. And the producers wanted to show this with the story.
2. But in other way, i think the producers gave to Ted, the romantic protagonist, a lame life. Common - he´s the last to marry, his wife dies, he raises the children alone and have a lame / quick wedding. I think Ted deserve better, is dream become reality is so short. He spends is entire life dreaming about this and with a big wedding. And in reality is so short. I think the producers wanted to people know that the simple things in life are the happiest and the best, like tracy and ted, their life is simple, emotional and happy. And at the same time they wanted to show that life is fucked up. We all in real life dont have the life we dream it or the life we wanted. We spend so much, like Ted, dreaming with a The One and The true love shit, that we dont live the life we have at its fullest and in the end is so short because people die. Or in case of Barney and Robin sometimes things dont work out, and divorce is the most probably thing to happen.
3. The Robin - I hate what the producers did with the character of Robin´s, they transformed Robin in someone who never knows what she really wants, who never love someone for real and hearthbreak Ted and Barney a lot. We never know who Robin really loves, sometimes she wants Ted, sometimes Barney and in the mix of seasons a lot of relationshsips. We never know who she really wants or loves. Who is her The one? We never know..
4. The producers wanted to show the true love and the One is Simple. Like Ted and Tracy, Marshall and Lilly they are all simple and cute. In this line of though , The Stripper Quinn was The One of Barney, they were simple and had so much in common. It was stupid they made Barney a single lonely father for the rest of his life. Barney deserved better. He Grow up a lot. It was Not fair. Quinn was his perfect match.
5. I really think Ted and Barney never loved for real Robin, they were fixated on her. Because she was strong cool inteligent beautifull and emotional distant and this conditions make the guys flip over girls. We humans want what we never can have - the forbidden fruit, and in this case Robin was the forbidden fruit of Ted and Barney. But the people we are fixated, we all have one in our lifes, never is the one and never is the right to end up or to be happy with. And proof is the divorce between Robin and Barney and the endless times Robin said No to Ted advances. The time Ted let goes of his fixation for Robin he meets the Mother The one. Because of that i think is stupid he end up with Robin in they´re 40 ´s - 50´s.
6. The producers wanted to tell a different and surprising kind of love story between Ted and Robn, that they didnt realize the true love story and the most beautifull story they told was Ted and Tracy. And maybe Robin and Barney. But they didnt care.. They were so fixated with the original idea ending, they didnt realized it made no sense.
7. In the end i think the show advices peopple to just live our lives, pursue our personal and professional dreams, enjoy friendship at the fullest, and if the one or true love appears naturaly and not obsessed kind of way, we should embrace it, if not, its still ok, and we can be happy alone to.
This was my final thoughs about the show. What do you think ? Are you still pissed about the finale?
HIMYM Alternate Ending
This is dedicated to all those who like me, were jilted at the HIMYM series finale. Read it in Ted's voice for full effect.
Now kids, where was I? Oh, right. So it was your Aunt Robin and Uncle Barney’s wedding. They exchanged their vows in the most beautiful ceremony I have ever seen. Ok wait, second most beautiful. Your mom’s and I was better.
So we were at the dinner and your Aunt Robin and Uncle Barney was on the dance floor. We still couldn’t believe that your Uncle Barney had finally settled down. Amidst all that the conversation turned to my move to Chicago the next day. I was looking forward to it. It would be a new beginning, a fresh start. I had an apartment lined up and a job waiting for me. But then I looked at the band, and there stood the most stunning creature I had ever seen. She was rocking the bass guitar in a dark maroon dress, smiling as she played those notes. And yes, stop looking at me like that. It was your Mom.
So Uncle Barney recognizes your mom in the band and starts talking to her. And by talking, I mean showing off Aunt Robin. He finds out that your mom just broke up with Loius (What a douche. I mean, right?). And then it hits him. Like Marshall’s great slap to his face. Your mom was single. I was single. We were perfect for each other.
Next came two minutes of “Ted, Ted, Ted, Ted.” Your Uncle Barney wanted to play “Have you met Ted” with your mom. And, I don’t know. I just couldn’t deal with it. I told him that I had to leave. Otherwise I would miss my train. After saying goodbye outside and having the most Legendary of High-Fives, I went to the Farhampton train station.
So of course the train was late. And I started talking to this nice old lady. Well, she was nice at first. Then she became annoying. She suggested I go back to the party to speak to your mom. And I still couldn’t deal with it. I was moving to Chicago. Why would I want to speak to your mom? Even if she was the cutest girl I’d ever seen.
And just like that, your mom was standing at the train station, under the rain with my yellow umbrella (I’ll come back to that) and her bass guitar.
Fast forward a day. I’m sitting in Maclaren’s, drinking my beer when your Uncle Marshall and Aunt Lily walk in. So of course they are surprised to see me, but no biggie. Your Uncle Marshall was really emotional, but don’t tell him I said that. I told them I met a girl. And not just any girl. I met the bass player. And just thinking about your mom made me smile. So I called her, and asked her out for dinner the next day. Yes, with me. You remember the story of our first dinner together right?
So it’s 2015, and I’m planning the wedding with Aunt Robin and Uncle Barney. We were discussing how me and your mom would be exiting the castle on a hot air balloon, because, you know, you gotta make a big exit. Oh, yeah. 17th century French castle. And then your mom walks in. I ask her whether she’s wired the payment to the castle guy and she says no. You wanna know why kids? Your mom said that we couldn’t get married in September. Because when she does get married, she wants to be able to fit her in wedding dress. You know what that meant? Yeap, she was pregnant with you, Penny. Oh don’t look at me like that. It’s natural.
May, 2016. The gang are back in our house. Uncle Marshall had just returned to corporate law after him and Aunt Lily got back from Italy. Uncle Barney and Aunt Robin were back from Aunt Robin’s assignment in Argentina. After a lot of fighting and drinking and making up, they decided that they couldn’t keep doing it. Aunt Robin decided to quit her job so that they could both stay in New York. Uncle Barney was still making loads of money from his job, and Aunt Robin could find an anchor position with one of the other networks. Plus, they got to be closer to all of us. Or at least Uncle Marshall and Aunt Lily. Your mom and I had already moved into this house. And so were you Penny. But despite the distance, we promised each other that we would always be there for the big moments.
October, 2016. After resisting for the longest time, your Uncle Marshall and Aunt Lily finally decided to move to a bigger place. Of course, the cockamouse helped made the decision for them. They decided to have one final costume party as a farewell to the apartment. We were all up on the roof, and I was in my Hanging Chad costume. Yes, it’s cool. Moving on. Your Uncle Barney was dressed up as David Lee Roth and decided he could do the mid-air split like David. Of course, he couldn’t. Funny sight that one.
Fast forward to 2018 and I’m sitting in Maclaren’s with Lily, Robin, and Barney waiting for Marshall. We were discussing how it was a big deal for us to be hanging out together again now that we were so far away from each other. I wasn’t convinced, but your Uncle Marshall proved otherwise. He had finally received the call. He was going to be a judge in Queens. Not wanting to miss the good news train, your Aunt Robin announced that she and Uncle Barney were looking into adopting. They didn’t want you guys to be lonely. At least, that was what they said. I think Aunt Robin was just clucky.
2019, Robots and Wrestlers. Kids, you remember robots and wrestlers right? So we were sitting there drinking our erm, juice. And Uncle Marshall and Aunt Lily were talking about how me and your mom still weren’t married yet when Uncle Barney walks in. The smirk on his face was priceless. We just thought he bought a new suit. But no, a single mom had picked Aunt Robin to be the adopting mom for her baby. Uncle Barney was going to be a dad!
2020. And just like that, Ellie Stinson said hello to the world. Uncle Barney and Aunt Robin could not be happier. Heck, we were all happy! And seeing the 3 of them, so perfect as a family, it made me want to marry your mom even more. Oh yeah, we still weren’t married yet. Yes, we’ve already had you Luke. So when we got home, I took your mom’s engagement ring, got down on one knee, and asked your mom to marry me on Thursday. Simple as that. Who needs a French castle or hot air balloon when I have your mom?
Thursday. Your Uncle Barney and Aunt Robin were falling asleep at the bar because Ellie wasn’t going to sleep. Uncle Marshall announces that he was running for State Supreme Court. And then your mom walks in. A stunning creature as ever. Ok I can’t remember why we were at the bar before the wedding. And no, the wedding wasn’t in the bar. It was in a church. And during the entire ceremony I thanked every lucky star I had that I met your mom. Because although the road was long and hard, from the moment I met your mom I knew that I had to love her as much as I could, for as long as I could, and that I couldn’t stop loving her, even for one second. And I carry that lesson to this very day.
Oh, I forgot to tell you how I actually met your mom. Ok, we were at the train platform after Barney and Robin’s wedding. When I saw your mom, standing under MY yellow umbrella, I just knew. I mustered the courage to get up, walk over, and tap your mother on the shoulder. And when I did, the whole world made sense. The serendipity of everything came together with that one conversation with your mom. Because kids, there are no coincidences. Only the universe preparing you to meet your one, true love.
“And that kids, is how I met your mother.” Ted said as he hugged Tracy tightly, kissing her on her forehead.
THE END
The How I Met Your Mother finale
First off I want to thank Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for creating my favorite television show, one I will always carry with me and tell my children about one day. This show was one of a kind and I will never forget it. Bravo to the cast and crew <3
Second, I want to address the finale. I...dare I say it...kinda liked it. If I'm being honest I HATED it when it was over. I was outraged. How could they do this? How could they tear apart Barney and Robin, the couple that made it through the worst, and who they focused on all season long? Then it sunk in....this is the way it had to be. Ted and Robin had to end up together. Penny (the daughter) was 100% correct when she said that the story included too little of the mother to make sense. He could have just been like "yep I met your mother at a train station after a wedding" but he didn't. He mentioned Robin too much for him to have ever truly let go of her. Also people are saying it's disrespectful to the mother when he moves on to Robin again....it's been SIX YEARS! He has the right to move on. He mourned over his late wife for YEARS!!! And does anyone remember the pact Robin and Ted made together? If they were 40 and single, they'd get married. Also I'm SO happy that Carter and Craig didn't do the thing that would have made audiences happy, they did what made them happy. They stuck to their vision for nine years and that is TRUE dedication. I commend them for that.
Third, Barney. I love Barney so much. I am so sad that he ends up alone....however, I am so glad he has a daughter. That is the true love of his life and I think more than a wife, he needed someone in his life that would teach him what life is truly about. He also needed someone to remind him to cherish life and never take for granted the good things in life.
All in all it ended the way it needed to. It HAD to end that way in order for the show to make sense. Would it have been my first choice as an ending? Probably not. I hate to say this, but I don't think any ending would have been satisfactory for the fans. I absolutely love this show and I'm eager to see what How I Met Your Dad has in store for us.
Love you, fellow HIMYM fans. Stay legend-wait for it-
Dary. It was great watching along with all of you.
How I met your mother ending review.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!!! YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO END IT SOOOO WELL BUT THEN YOU HAD TO GO AND DO THAT!!!! Robin and barny went together so well you could of told a tail of adoption for them to have a kid. And ted and tracy were perfect (I'm not giving away any spoilers). You guys had the chance to end it so damn well but you had to do that!!!!! Marshall and lily ended roughly how I figured they would so no big deal there. But really.... I'm sorry but I am extremely disappointed with the ending. . .
