Over the past few years I have been developing an art project in conjunction with my M.A. and working on a restoration plan for Hinemihi with Te Maru, a committee which has been working with the National Trust and Clandon Park. Sadly Clandon House was recently destroyed by fire. Thankfully no one was injured and Hinemihi was protected by people who kept watch over her while the fire burned. This footage shows the devastating fire. Just to the top right of the House you can make out Hinemihi in the grounds of the estate. Watching the video and the billowing smoke and flames I couldn't help but recall the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886 in which Hinemihi sheltered and protected people from the volcanoes destructive force.
