Hypersomnia: Short Discussion

This movie is in Spanish, first and foremost. It is also about sex trafficking, so there are some disturbing scenes, but I actually think this movie handles the topic well. This movie can be a bit hard to follow because of its psychological element, but things straighten out at the end so you’re not left with questions.

Normally, movies about sexual violence would avert me from them, but in this case, i think the scenes have the right balance of disturbing without going too far, and I think they use the violence to make a point, not just to gross the viewer out. 

The aesthetic was well done, and it was well filmed, overall nice to look at. The soundtrack comes across as vaguely cheesy, but it works for the movie. 

Overall, not the most exciting or intriguing horror movie I’ve ever watched, but I enjoyed watching it, and it was a refreshing take on violence against women. Maybe my standards are low from watching American horror films, but I really felt this movie didn’t exploit women just for some kind of sick voyeurism; it had a point and it focused on how the women were hurt and took revenge. I recommend it!
