“Forever. People always ask for forever. ‘Dear God, will you please make him love me forever? Dear God, may I please continue to live forever? Dear God, please allow this feeling to stay forever?’ But you know, in the end, forever is nothing but a burden. If everything is forever, then why would anyone care about anything? I want my life to be a short as it must be, as long as it is filled with everything. I do not care if I die tomorrow, that is not my concern. If I am dead, I cannot grieve the loss of my own life. I can only grieve the loss of it while I am still here and not doing everything with the time I am given-- therefore I will make sure every second is worth it. Sleep shall come when I am covered by soil and when animals devour my skin. Rest shall come once my heart beats no more.”
It was 3 in the morning and the man had been writing for long enough that his fingers found it impossible to release the pen from the criminal mastermind’s grasp. He was aware that he needed rest, that his body would fail to function properly without it, but he refused to give into that fact. He refused to accept that he, in the end, needed ordinary things as much as any other human being. So instead, he wrote as if there was no tomorrow, his every thought creating an art of ink and paper.
