Kicked Out.
One of the most sought after events of the year was coming up. The who’s who of the community attended this event. The list of people in attendance were most all of the decision makers in the greater community, leaders in both business, non-profit and politics. I had been invited to this particular event for 3 straight years. I had a comped ticket one year, a friends company sponsored a table I sat at for free and another year I paid my way.
This year I was asked to be a small sponsor and said I would be happy to sponsor again. I was excited for the event. It was always an awesome time with great people. When I brought up the conversation of purchasing my ticket, it was met with the conversation that tickets were all already accounted for... Was this for real? I just committed to giving you money in addition to buying a ticket for the event that just went on sale...
I could not get a ticket to the event, yet all of my friends were invited to attend. I ended up not following through with the sponsorship...
The night of the event I received messages from more 6 different friends that were wondering where I was sitting at the event and why they had not yet seen me yet. I had to respond that I could not get a ticket to the event this year which surprised them.
Apparently I am no longer a cool kid. One year you are the life of the party and next year you do not even make the wait list.
The club is exclusive and you just got excluded.
